Partial Knee Replacement Hi, my name is Martin McCaffrey from Sligo. Fifty eight and partly because of my knees now an ex-firefighter. I had a knee operation on the 25th of October 22 with Surgery Now in the IMED hospital in Benidorm. First, I'd like to extend my apologies to the Surgery Now team for taking so long to write about my experience but I'm a natural cynic and I thought that I could appease others that may be of a similar nature by waiting until the HSE had fulfilled their end of the deal, thus I am now in a position to state confidently that not just Surgery Now but all the constituent parts of the Cross Border Directive have worked as advertised. See? I told you I was a cynic. I'm sorry if this may be slightly unfair on Surgery Now as it ends up as being a bit more than a review of their operation but of the whole system however I now feel happier being able to say that as of this day, not alone am I recovering very well from my knee operation but all the costs have been approved and the reimbursement has been sent to my account. The care that Leanne, Scott and the rest of the crew lavished upon me during my visit was exemplary and everything went as planned thankfully. I can give no better endorsement of their care than to state that, now that I'm sure of the system I'll be booking in shortly without any qualms whatsoever to finish the job and get the other knee done. From start to finish I was treated with care that exceeded my expectations. It can be daunting to decide on going abroad alone for something as extreme as surgery but I wasn't prepared to wait and allow the knee to worsen. In consultation with the Spanish doctors there was the probability that I was a candidate for a partial rather than a total knee replacement. I was afraid that if it was allowed to worsen over the kind of timeframe that I was looking at here then that option may disappear, after the initial to and fro of questions and answers. When I made the decision to go ahead I rang to be told that I could get it done "Tuesday week!". Brilliant, barely any time to get nervous, booked flights, booked accommodation from the list provided and discounted for Surgery Now client's. I chose The Melia Hotel just across the road from the Hospital. From there, care was arranged from Knock airport that covered every step of the journey and never stopped, in fact if it had been necessary I was assured that if there had been need (happily there was none) the office was at my beck and call if there were questions from the HSE. It's rare to receive service as good as was provided, rarer still in a medical setting. I'm struggling to find the appropriate superlatives to describe my experience, the fact that I'm about to repeat the process shall have to stand as the best recommendation that I can provide.
