If you’re considering Bay Eye Center in Mansfield, beware of unethical and deceptive practices. As a new patient, I arrived expecting the standard eye exam covered by my insurance, only to be told last minute that an additional $45 test—completely out of pocket and not covered by insurance—was “mandatory” to be seen. No transparency, no prior disclosure, just a demand for extra money. What’s even worse? They admitted it’s not mandated by Massachusetts law or federal guidelines, so it’s purely their own profit-driven policy.
I’ve been to multiple eye doctors over the years and have never encountered such a sleazy approach. When I questioned the legitimacy of this charge, instead of getting a clear answer, I was interrupted and stonewalled by their so-called “manager,” Courtney, who clearly lacks both professionalism and basic customer service skills. She stated she didn’t want to speak with me, yet felt free to jump in while I was discussing the situation with the doctor.
To make matters worse, they initially agreed to waive this suspicious charge as a one-time courtesy, which only raises more red flags about how arbitrary and unjustified it is. However, by then, their disregard for patients’ time and trust was too evident. I chose to leave rather than support such an establishment.
I highly advise potential patients to think twice before wasting their time with Bay Eye Center. They’re clearly more interested in squeezing extra dollars from unsuspecting patients than in offering ethical, patient-centered care. Their exploitative practices and lack of transparency need to be reported to the state for a thorough investigation. Save yourself the hassle—go to a place where patients are respected, not scammed.

While out of pocket fees for some services may be frustrating and seem unethical, they are valuable measures for allowing our team of Optometrists to have the necessary tools to provide only the best care possible. Doctor Williams has been amazing with my daughter who previously was terrified of eye doctors. She is super kind and kid friendly. Dr. Williams knows her stuff!

Was told I’d have to have a $45 co-pay for retinal imagining and was not allowed to skip that part, so I cancelled….even tho the form I filled out said I have a $0 co-pay for the exam. Extremely displeased, my wife and I will not be returning.
Receptionist needs some training on how to deal with people. She has an attitude at the slightest inconvenience.

The Doctor I saw was very nice and kept me informed, very detailed . Was left waiting for my appointment even though there was no one in the waiting room when I questioned the receptionist she was not very friendly unfortunately, she never said goodbye as I left which seems trivial but makes a difference.
