The Chippy Hopeman Reviews

The quality of the food can be a bit hit and miss, much like a number of places. But now I have had 2 or 3 poor meals in 6 I think there may be a trend. The fish can be overcooked with chewey dark batter. My last order had an item missing which was delivered later, but in the end we ate separately.

Award winning fish and chips. Fish was cooked perfectly, batter was cooked to perfection and delicious. The fish skin removed so all of it can be eaten. Well done guys amazing food. *****

Great little chippie, wait was a while but well work the wait. We did take away twice in a week. They have a large menu select.

Great wee place and the village is lovely

As like Rob, also recommended, not impressed with the food we ordered. Just fish & chips, however waited well over15 minutes. Unfortunately walked away with our boxed supper, without checking. Sat near local harbour, batter was like thick crispy biscuits, inside was yellow uncooked batter, far to thick. Very little fish inside which was very dry. Think they had used the smallest potatoes for my chips. We are from the local area and will not be using The Chippy at Hopeman again.

One of the better chip shops

This Chippy was recommended to us whilst staying at West beach caravan park… We were told it was “good for the area”. We ordered two Haddock and chips. The staff were friendly and the shop quickly became very busy. I’m guessing most people entering the shop had ordered by telephone because their wait was shorter than ours. After a fifteen minute wait our food was served and we took it back to the campsite to eat. Although the portion sizes were very good the food itself was very dry and bland. The fish and the chips seemed like they had come from a warming cabinet and had been cooked earlier. They definitely weren’t cooked fresh…. The wait was understandable because of how busy it was but the quality of the food wasn’t understandable. Very poor. I gave three stars for the atmosphere…how do you rate the atmosphere of a chippy??🤔 I should’ve asked if I could buy the “Oor Willie Braw fish and chips” carton… I would’ve given four stars for atmosphere then…😉

Not the quality most of the other reviews suggest. Fish itself was nice but wrapped in batter with a leathery outer and uncooked against the fish. Chicken fillets were dry and needed the garlic dip. Chips dry and rubbery. Best chippy in the area, because it’s the only one perhaps? Portknockie miles better.
