CASE OF MISTAKEN IDENTITY One day I was alerted by LIFELOCK that a collection agency had placed a negative mark against my credit record claiming that I owed a balance against a medical bill. I thought this was strange because I had not seen a doctor in years. When I called the collection agency to inquire, they were very rude and told me to dispute it if it was not mine and then hung up on me. I called back and asked to dispute it with whom? They then sent me a copy of the bill with my name on it. After some investigation on my part, I discovered that the bill belonged to another individual that had the same first and last name as me. This other individual lived in another state and the bill was from a hospital also in that other state which I had never been. I called the hospital to inquire about the bill and they cited my name, but the birthday and social security number were different than mine. I told the hospital that it was not mine. I then called the collection agency and told them the same thing. This is NOT my bill! I also called one of the credit bureaus to report this error. A few weeks later the credit bureau reported that it was mine. And the collection agency continued to insist that it was mine as well. The collection agency continued to harass me for months. I was at the end of my rope. I contacted Consumer Attorneys and explained the whole scenario. Thank God I did. They immediately went to work on my case and the harassing calls stopped. My attorney at CONSUMER ATTORNEYS was able to correct the record as well as secure compensation not only from the credit collection agency who misreported someone else’s medical bill on my credit record, but also from two of the credit bureaus as well for posting someone else's bill to my credit file and also stating that it was my bill. I can’t thank Consumer Attorneys enough for correcting the record. My sincere gratitude goes out to all the staff at CONSUMER ATTORNEYS who worked on resolving my case and even securing compensation for all of the trouble and time it cost me to get it all straightened out! I am extremely satisfied with Consumer Attorneys and the help that they have provided me. I found out that I had a major issue with my credit.
