What an AMAZING tour we had with our guide for our first visit to Portugal! RICARDO was everything in a guide we could have hoped for to travel with us to visit a series of historical and picturesque locations in Portugal for 2 full days. Ricardo was knowledgeable, intelligent, fun and thoroughly engaging throughout our time with him. He was responsive to what we wanted to see and do in Portugal and was able to “pivot” if we decided we wanted to do something other than what had been previously scheduled for us. Ricardo was so informative about the history of Portugal and was able to give us the full “back story” on each location we visited with him. He took tremendous photos for us to capture the memories in our time with him. Ricardo is multi-lingual, and took us to places we would never have seen or experienced in Portugal without him. Throughout our time with Ricardo, he kept us laughing, we learned so much about the history and culture of Portugal, and we enjoyed every moment. When it was unclear whether the travel company had scheduled him to be with us for a second day, we emailed them to request that our time with Ricardo continue and they were able to accommodate us so we spent another wonderful day with him. Simply put, Ricardo ROCKS! Here are some of the amazing experiences we had with Ricardo during our time with him: (1) Explored the small town of Amarante with its beautiful surroundings and risqué stories about the history of its town’s origins — Ricardo took us to one of the town’s bakeries/coffee spots and treated us to some of the sweet Portugal pastries there next to the river; (2) Visited a country family-owned winery (Quinta de Bucheiro) where we toured the grounds, learned about their wine-making practices, and then had an authentic and delicious multi-course lunch made by the family accompanied by lovely wines from the winery itself; (3) Private boat tour on the Douro River of the amazing wine country and hillside vines and surrounding buildings; (4) Jeep ride through the Douro wine country with its narrow dirt roads and beautiful countryside (Ricardo was a safe but fun driver through some pretty dicey roads!) and tasting of roadside grapes and photos of breathtaking scenery; and (5) Wine tasting at Quinta do Tedo winery and private picnic lunch in their wine cave. Ricardo had a wonderful sense of humor and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with him, and would choose him again as a guide in a heartbeat in our next vacation to Portugal! My friend and I were part of a wine tour that stopped in Pinhao for a boat ride. We were warmly welcomed by Nuno and Luis who were incredible hosts. Nuno knew so much about the area and spent a lot of time teaching us about the region. Luis was a great boat driver who kept us safe. Both gentlemen were incredible and always kept our wine glasses full. I can’t thank them enough for giving us a memorable experience on the water.

Boat trip was overbooked we could not go.

We had a wonderful day tour with Gonçalo! He is the best! It was feeling like you were with a friend. He took care of us, explained a lot of things about the history of the region. We recommend 100%

We paid €180 pp for a private guided tour within the Douro Valley, from 10am-5pm. In advance I was given the choice between several wineries and restaurants and we agreed on two specific wineries, one of them being “Adega H.O - An end of day private wine experience”. On the day our guide had an itinerary without this winery on it. We immediately notified him and he contacted the office but they could not offer us what we booked, and suggested we visit the second winery immediately after the first, and have lunch (at our own expense) at 2pm. This was not ideal for us because we had a dinner booked at 7pm, and also it was not the “end of day private wine experience” we were expecting. Ultimately we agreed because otherwise we would not have been able to visit H.O. winery at all. Our guide then took a wrong turn which resulted in even more delays and we ended up spending far more time en route than if we had visited the wineries in the order as agreed up front, which was unfortunate as my partner gets very car sick. Also, we didn’t arrive at the restaurant for lunch until 3pm, and back at our hotel until 7pm. At no point was I contacted to offer apologies and it was even hinted that there was a miscommunication on my part, even though I have written confirmation of what I booked. We paid in full and tipped upon drop off, then a week or so later I sent a message detailing my complaint about the day and had no response. Since then I have sent two more messages with no response. We had a great day, and especially enjoyed the boat ride, but for that price I would expect that the day was as booked and I was offered an apology and compensation for the lack of planning.
