This guy is great if your an experienced fisher or just starting out!

By far the best captain/ fishing experience I’ve had. Captain is VERY knowledgeable and patient with kids. Got our trout limit in less than an hour and then took us to hunt some reds. Hooked a 27” trout, couldn’t keep it but defiantly a very rear catch. Definitely will be booking with this captain again. Thanks captain Joaquin!

I took myself, the wife and our 6 year old on a fishing trip with Mr Pena, and let me tell you he was the absolute best teacher for my 6 year old. He made it such a fun trip for him and my wife. They had an absolute blast! He knows his stuff and will work his tail off to put you on fish!! Highly highly recommend. Very very kid friendly!!

We first met when we booked a 1/2 day with Captain Joaquin last year October 2023. We had such a great time that we booked another day that same week! We told him that we would see him in a year, we only made it 6 months as we’re here now and just finished our 3rd day in a row out slamming the trout and red fish!! Unbelievable knowledge of the waters. This guys doesn't take you fishing, he takes you on a fish hunt! He knows how to read the waters and find the fish.

I recently had the pleasure of joining a friend’s fishing trip with Driftwater Charters, and it was an outstanding experience. Captain Joaquin was nothing short of amazing! His expertise, friendliness, and professionalism made the trip truly enjoyable. I can’t wait to visit South Padre again & book a trip of my own!

We did a trip on Dec 6 with Joaquin Peña and had an incredible time fishing with him as our captain and guide. He was the ultimate gentleman, and his experience in fishing the bay was obvious. We caught our limit of redfish and took home a speckled trout as well. Joaquin was also a patient and gentle teacher. He worked hard to put us on fish and make sure we caught them while having a good time. My wife and I would highly recommend Captain Joaquin as your captain!!!

Best fishing trip I've ever been on! Captain Joaquin is highly experienced, 43 years of being on the water. Every piece of advice he gave us worked. So if you don't listen and don't catch fish it's your own fault lol. He keeps things interesting with his humor, and makes feel like you have been life long friends. I was also impressed with the communication between the other Captains, they constantly work together all day long helping keep everyone on fish. The fish we caught were all shapes and sizes. From keeper trout to some really big redfish, and the black drum were hogs. Mother in law and wife had the fight of their life with those. Thank you Captain for helping make this vacation one of the best! See you on about a year!

Joaquin was simply amazing. This man stayed late on Father’s Day for me and my dad, got us on some nice reds and we had a blast. If you’re ever in the area and want to get some fishing done then he is the one you need to come see.

Joaquin is the best best guide I've ever had we always have fun and catch fish. I was able to catch fish on my fly rod, we absolutely killed it!

Best experience! Can't wait to go again! Very knowledgeable and had us catching dozens of fish in the first hour.

My husband, our three kids, and myself had a rough day of fishing but Joaquin never gave up. We caught quite a few fish throughout the day (and a stingray) but nothing that we were able to keep. We made multiple moves and never stayed too long in a spot that wasn't producing. Joaquin was actively trying to find "heards" of fish with his knowledge of the bay and by contacting other fishing guides to see if, and where, they were getting hits (no one was having any luck). We were originally scheduled for a 5 hour trip but our lack of fish made Joaquin want to keep trying. We were up for it so we kept pushing on and it paid off! We were out for about 8 hours and on our last stop we caught a 29" and a 24" red drum.

We absolutely loved this trip even though we didn't catch as many as we had hoped. Joaquin was great with all three of our kids (6, 9, 12) and helped and encouraged them the whole time. It was nice to have someone else help the kids so we could fish too. We will absolutely be back to fish with him the next time we are on SPI.

Captain Joaquin took my family and I out on one hell of a fishing trip! It was a really cool experience learning some of the techniques of fishing in the south, with captain Joaquin as an excellent instructor! He runs his boat extremely well, and is very well mannered, with a hard work ethic! Honestly, if you don’t like this guy, you are probably the issue. 110% would recommend!!

We had a absolute blast. We caught our limit of black drum. Joaquin took great care of us. We will definitely use him again and tell everyone we know.
