We ended up having a great shuttle experience with Hazard, and Geoff was prompt with pickup and friendly along the ride. But I did have some frustrations with Geoff's text communications that prevented a better review. The morning of our scheduled shuttle was raining, and Geoff texted the shuttle was cancelled. Totally understand, no problem. What bummed me out was how curt the text was. No apology, no sympathy, no attempt to reschedule, no checking in to see if we'd like to ride in the drizzle (which we probably would have done if we only had one day). And no explanation of whether we could rain-check, get a ride credit or a refund. In fact, I was disappointed Hazard never reached out over the next two days while we rode Moab with our own car. I kinda assumed that since rain obviously isn't under Hazard's control, they might just keep our ride fee and was ready to write it off. But we had one final day to ride and I texted Geoff back and asked if we could rain check our original shuttle. His entire reply: "indeed". He didn't ask if we wanted to run the same route, where or when we were to be picked up ~ I had to ask and confirm all of these things. Anyway, Geoff seemed very friendly and professional when we finally got a ride, he had a nice truck and he gave us some good Moab intel and trail info on our way to the trailhead, so it's odd that the text communication was so subpar. We had a great ride and an excellent last day, so it's not that big a deal .Maybe it was an assistant on an off day? I'll never know.
Hi Luke,
I wish you would have brought up these issues during our drive. I would have cleared up any miscommunication.
I will take the time now.
Just so you know, you purchased the Peek Protection plan for this reservation, which is like travel insurance.
It clearly states that if the party has to cancel at the last minute or the shuttle doesn't run, the trip will be refunded through Peek.
If you hadn't purchased the travel insurance, our cancelation policy states, "if the weather is bad and we wouldn't ride you will be issued a full refund."
The drizzle you described was a full-on storm up above 5000 feet. It dropped snow and created a muddy mess, resulting in a two-day trail closure. We don't dictate when the trails are rideable; the local Trail Mix organization controls these decisions. We can lose our shuttle permit if we drop guests off when the trails are prone to damage.
When you requested a rain check, I said yes without hesitation. Regardless, I didn't have the resources to get your group up to the trail that day, as our shuttle vans were being used to service other trails and reservations.
I signed you up for the same trail, pickup time, and meeting location you had originally purchased. I didn't think you required reconfirmation on these details.
In addition, I assumed you had already been refunded through Peek Protection. However, I provided your group with a free ride in my personal vehicle out of the goodness of my heart and to promote good business.
Sixteen other guests received the same text as you the morning of the cancellation.
No one assumed that we would keep their money. Everyone received a full refund without contacting me.
Lastly, in (5) years of operating and 900 reviews, yours was the first non-5-star.
I'm sorry you didn't receive the service you expected.
You can contact Peek via the email you received when you purchased the protection plan, and they will happily refund your reservation, as the shuttle was canceled due to bad weather.
Best regards,
Geoff
