Surfing is my favorite activity to do while visiting Maui! During our last trip, we took two surf lessons with Dj. Both times were fantastic. Everyone in our group caught multiple waves and did great with Dj's guidance. Dj is an incredibly encouraging and patient teacher and is a JOY to be around (haha, get it?). Super professional, great communicator, and all around wonderful human. We felt safe, had a fun time, and will be booking more lessons with Dj next time we visit. Book a lesson, you won't regret it.

I highly recommend Joy Ride Maui as a “Must Do” for your Hawaiian vacation. DJ helped make our trip to Maui all the more special. Our teenage boys were naturals but their parents “not so much.” He was kind, patient, and ridiculously knowledgeable as to when we should start to paddle and how to stand up. I don’t hesitate one bit to recommend DJ and Joy Ride Maui to our neighbors and friends as soon as I hear they’re headed to Maui. We’ll definitely be back!!

DJ was awesome! My son and I had a great time, wish I would’ve done it earlier in our stay and more often. DJ helped us progress and successfully catch some waves right away. Mahalo DJ, see you next time!

Awesome guy and great teacher! I was able to easily get the core part of how to stand comfortably on the wave and he devoted all his attention to us one by one. I stopped falling down to my side after catching the waves, after DJs lesson🤙

DJ gave our kids the best surf lesson!!! He was patient, chill, and fun. They got up on all of their attempts and it was their first time surfing! Thanks DJ! Ages 7, 8, and 11.

DJ is absolutely fantastic. I’ve surfed a little previously but he was quick to spot how to improve my paddling and wave reading and was incredibly patient and encouraging. He’s such a welcoming guy and is not just a great surf instructor but also very knowledgeable about other things to do on the island. Highly highly recommended!

DJ is the best! He is knowledgeable, patient, and a great teacher. We were total beginners and all 4 of us were riding the waves by the end of the lesson. Thank you DJ for an unforgettable time!

I booked a surf lesson last-minute for my son - he had just turned 12 and wanted to learn to surf while we were in Maui. I was able to reach DJ on the phone and he immediately offered his availability for the lesson. We settled on a date/time then he texted me with details for the lesson. The location was easy to find (but not easy to park) and he was already here, setting up for the day. My son said that they were in the water in less than 20 minutes, and he was able to stand up on the surf board on the first try! He ended up riding 6-7 waves on his first day! Before the lesson my son was anxious about learning to surf - he was worried that he couldn't be able to move in the water, or fall in and possibly drown. DJ was able to alleviate his fears and at the end, he told me that it was "easier than he thought it was going to be." He also LOVED the lesson and said that he wanted to surf more! DJ was super-easy to work with, friendly, and all around super nice guy. I highly recommend him for kids' surfing lessons!

My kids had lessons with DJ and he was awesome. My daughter was afraid of waves but he took good care of her and she enjoyed it. My son loved it.

DJ made my kids’ (10yr and 7yr) first surf lesson a wonderful experience. He was so great with our kids, teaching them the basics, patiently finding them good waves, helping them get up, and riding tandem worth my 7yr. Excellent experience for our little beginners; they felt successful, rode waves and had a great time. We highly recommend DJ!

DJ is the best. He is friendly and gives great instructions. He got me and my wife up on the first wave we tried. He was also very accommodating since we had to reschedule a few times.

If you want to take surfing lessons in Maui, stop looking and use DJ. He is awesome. We had a 3 person group that had never surfed and all 3 were up and riding waves within 30 minutes. DJ is extremely professional and personal. A good teacher, easy to talk to and genuinely cared. His surf spot was terrific as well. He helped make the experience a family memory that will last a lifetime. Go ahead and book him!

Surf lessons have been on my bucket list for ages and DJ made it happen! DJ was incredibly kind and helpful. He was so supportive and fun to take lessons from. I am incredibly grateful for his patience. Highly recommend taking lessons through DJ. It was worth every penny and a memory I will never forget. Absolutely will come back and do lessons again.

DJ provided tandem surf lessons for our five year old son. Easy to connect with, responsive, great with our five year old son. Would highly recommend. Son loved it!

Great experience surfing today. We took the kids surfing, and both instructors went above and beyond. They were extremely helpful and patient with the kids. Will definitely do again if we’re in Maui again.

DJ is a phenomenal instructor! My boys (18 and 15) did a semi private lesson and had the time of their lives. They were up on the boards and catching waves in no time. From a logistics standpoint, DJ is great with communication and very easy to work with. Highly recommend for a memorable experience!
