DJ made my kids’ (10yr and 7yr) first surf lesson a wonderful experience. He was so great with our kids, teaching them the basics, patiently finding them good waves, helping them get up, and riding tandem worth my 7yr. Excellent experience for our little beginners; they felt successful, rode waves and had a great time. We highly recommend DJ!

DJ is the best. He is friendly and gives great instructions. He got me and my wife up on the first wave we tried. He was also very accommodating since we had to reschedule a few times.

If you want to take surfing lessons in Maui, stop looking and use DJ. He is awesome. We had a 3 person group that had never surfed and all 3 were up and riding waves within 30 minutes. DJ is extremely professional and personal. A good teacher, easy to talk to and genuinely cared. His surf spot was terrific as well. He helped make the experience a family memory that will last a lifetime. Go ahead and book him!

Surf lessons have been on my bucket list for ages and DJ made it happen! DJ was incredibly kind and helpful. He was so supportive and fun to take lessons from. I am incredibly grateful for his patience. Highly recommend taking lessons through DJ. It was worth every penny and a memory I will never forget. Absolutely will come back and do lessons again.

DJ provided tandem surf lessons for our five year old son. Easy to connect with, responsive, great with our five year old son. Would highly recommend. Son loved it!

Great experience surfing today. We took the kids surfing, and both instructors went above and beyond. They were extremely helpful and patient with the kids. Will definitely do again if we’re in Maui again.

DJ is a phenomenal instructor! My boys (18 and 15) did a semi private lesson and had the time of their lives. They were up on the boards and catching waves in no time. From a logistics standpoint, DJ is great with communication and very easy to work with. Highly recommend for a memorable experience!

A Maui must! Doug is awesome! Very down to earth and made things fun! We did a semi private and it was perfect. Doug did a great job of teaching and encouraging! Would recommend him for all levels (we are 1st timers!) and will see him again when we return to Maui with our 8 year old hopefully! ❤️🤙

Our family of 5 had never surfed before today. We had a great time - much more fun than any of us was expecting. DJ and Nick were so nice, helpful, and encouraging. Would definitely do this again.

Going out surfing with DJ was great! We did a small 3 person group lesson and he outlined all of the basics in a quick and simple way. We all started with 0 experience but by the end he made sure we all caught a good number of waves and we were riding comfortably.
If you're looking to learn how to surf and have a chill time with a Hawaii local, would absolutely recommend DJ.

I signed my 60 year old mom up for a surf lesson with DJ and he is THE BEST. Explained everything thouroughly, was patient and helped my mama every step of the way. She caught a bunch of waves and couldn’t stop talking about how much fun she had!! Take a lesson with DJ! 🏄♀️🙌🏼

We had a blast surfing with DJ and Tanner! My wife and I and our two kids (5 and 7) did semi-private lessons, and all of us were first-time surfers. Amazingly, we all got to surf!!! It was so cool, and DJ and Tanner were amazing instructors. They were really knowledgeable, while also being super positive and fun to be around. The whole experience was excellent, and we can’t recommend them enough!

Wow! We were extremely fortunate to find DJ Joy at Maui Surf Life Adventures. There are a limitless number of surfing schools in Maui. However, Maui Surf Life Adventures was definitely a good fit for two beginning teens. Their semi-private surf lesson for two was perfect. In addition, the area were the lesson took place (Guardrails) was not crowded and had the perfect wave size for beginner surfers.

My two kids, 11 and 13, first tried surfing in Kauai a years ago without success. To all of our surprise, DJ had them surfing on the first wave. It was so exciting and I was jealous that I didn’t also try it! DJ was super flexible and even warned of a swell. Because we had flexibility, we moved our lesson to another day. Would 100% take lessons with him again.

My daughter and I signed up for one surf lesson with DJ. We had such a great time, we signed up for another a few days later. DJ is kind and patient and a great teacher. I highly recommend reaching to him for surf lessons.

It was a lot of fun surfing with DJ. I had a private lesson, DJ taught me quite a few skills, tailored the lesson to my experience, picked the waves that fit my ability and instructed me how to catch those waves. With DJ’s help, I was able to catch a lot of waves in a 1.5 hour lesson. Highly recommend if you are want to do surfing lessons in Maui.
