This was a really intimate and beautiful way to experience koto and shamisen music. The host was very funny and shared some interesting facts about koto and shamisen instruments and the history of their music. The performance was very impressive, with a mixture of ancient ballads and newer arrangements. A gorgeous way to spend an evening.

Très bonne soirée animé par Samuel et Aiko. Superbe représentation, Aiko a magnifiquement bien joué et nous a transporté aux pays levant. Je le conseille à quiconque passera a Kyoto. Et notamment aux Français. Je souhaite plein de belle chose pour Aiko et Samuel. Je repasserai à l’occasion.

My friends and I were unfortunately disappointed with the experience. The introduction/information session was 30-40 minutes (interesting, but not advertised), while the concert was only ~20 minutes. We absolutely loved hearing Aoi play the koto and shamisen. She was professional and extremely talented. However, the info session was poorly prepared, the guide seemed uninterested, and he spoke mostly French to cater to other guests (understandable to include other guests, but we felt excluded when the guide and audience members spoke French while we waited for the concert to start). 4 pieces were played within an hour long concert. Music was 10/10, but the overall experience was 5/10 due to less music than we expected and long info session.

très belle expérience, 4 morceaux joués, utilisation de 2 instruments différents, différents styles musicaux. accueil super, temps d'échange au top, prestation de la musicienne très bonne, un moment hors du temps. Merci à Gen.je recommande. arrivez un peu en avance l'adresse n'est pas évidente, au fond d'une impasse. tournez à droite avant le barbier puis ruelle à gauche.

I (and another couple) were the only ones present for the concert, which made for a lovely, cozy evening! We received a little bit of background on the history of the shamisen and koto from Samuel, then got to enjoy a few pieces played by Aoi (she played so skillfully!) Afterwards, the audience got the opportunity to play the koto (shoutout to Shohei for patiently teaching us how to properly sit, pluck the strings, and read the sheet music) - I absolutely enjoyed playing! It actually almost sounded like music. If you only have a short time in Kyoto, I highly recommend you make time to participate in this activity - you won’t regret it!

On a eu un concert semi-privé, on était 5 + 2 dans la salle. C'était intime, on pouvait vraiment discuter librement avec Samuel et Aoi. On a d'abord eu une explication sur le fonctionnement et l'histoire des instruments, puis ensuite Aoi nous a joué 4 morceaux variés. On a adoré un morceau en particulier, à l'unanimité, elle était vraiment douée 👏

Das Konzert findet in einem typisch japanischen Haus statt. Das Erdgeschoss ist für das Konzert reserviert, was dem ganzen Erlebnis eine einzigartige Atmosphäre verleiht. Ich kann es jedem empfehlen, der sich allgemein für Musik und japanische Instrumente interessiert. Unser Führer erklärte den Aufbau und die Kultur der einzelnen Instrumente. Das war sehr lehrreich und informativ. Die Hauptdarstellerin Aoi ist (meiner Meinung nach) eine wirklich gute Musikerin. Wenn man Fragen hat, die ins Detail gehen oder über die Art und Weise, wie das Instrument gespielt wird, beantwortet sie die Fragen immer auf informative Weise oder demonstriert es. Ich kann euch dieses Konzert nur wärmstens empfehlen, da es kaum etwas Vergleichbares gibt und es ein einmaliges Erlebnis ist.

A personal experience with Traditional Japanese music and instruments
I had had quite some difficulty finding good places to listen to traditional Japanese instruments across the four cities (Tokyo, Osaka, Hiroshima and Kyoto) whilst on our trip to Japan.The Gen home in Japan was easy to find online, book and attend without weeks in advance notice necessary and was a very wonderful step into the world of beautiful Traditional japanese music.Would highly recommend for those willing to seek out the experience of the music as if it were being played at your own home live in front of you. The space is quite small but offers a really intimate experience as I gathered from the descriptions prior to attending.The guide was lovely, and the performer was incredible.Would attend again 100%!
