Clean and Dog Friendly Date of Stay: 09/28-10/02/2022. We stayed in room 3217 (Bldg 3, 2nd Floor), a two bedroom. It was huge, more than what me, the husband and Lab needed but since 1-bedrooms aren't yet available it's what we got. It was very dated, except for the master bath. But it was very clean and best of all - dog-friendly. The balcony was HUGE and we had a nice view of the gulf and the empty lot next door. The balcony furnishings was just your typical, cheap plastic table, chairs and loungers but since we were at the beach most of the time, it was OK. We felt the room was fine - dated for sure, but clean, the furnishings were OK - some dated, some seemed newer. The bed in the master (a King) was ATROCIOUS. I think that is probably my biggest, maybe really only complaint. I was like sleeping in a taco... super uncomfortable. Definitely need to be replaced. Kitchen was well-stocked & clean, appliances worked well & were clean. I would bring your own coffee and coffee filters but that's just me. They did supply two small packets that probably would have made two pots but... just bring your own and filters. There were plenty of towels and TP accessible. However, the website says you'd be provided 'dog towels' and dog sheets to cover furniture and we never received them but being courteous dog owners, we brought all that ourselves and covered all the furniture and used our own dog towels.Large closet in the master - huge and a decent one in the 2nd bedroom. Bathrooms were small but adequate, again the master seemed to have been remodeled. There were two twins in the 2nd bedroom and it was a shower w/bench only. Master was a tub/shower combo.Since we had our Lab with us, we did order in from their restaurant a few times, breakfast and dinners - all were very good, delivered promptly and were still hot at delivery. Beach access was easy over the board walk. Some boards had been replaced, and a few more looked like they could use it but we had no issues. Ian was hitting Florida so we had huge swells and access to the beach in the evenings was limited but that was no fault of the hotel.We did not utilize the pool area since we had a puppers with us but it looked amazing, especially for kids.A dog-friendly place, we saw may other dogs during our stay. They had grassy areas with dog stations to walk the dogs but that was also staff parking so could be limited & there were patches of sand-burrs (stickers). We took Murphy up near the front ponds and it was better, much better, although there were sand burrs around the volley ball court (ouch). It would be nice if they could put in a fenced area so you could let your dogs off leash. That would be my second request behind replacing the beds. :-)All the staff were friendly, we did not have daily maid service which was fine by us but the staff we did run into were great. The elevators were sketchy and upon our arrival didn't work but seemed to later, we just always took the stairs - no big deal except for lugging the luggage - note to self, pack less. Parking was good, you park under the building so seemed secure. We had no issues. Overall, please with our stay - certainly needs to be updated, even just some fresh paint in the outside areas would help but being one of the few dog-friendly hotels on the beach, I'm sure we'll be back. If you have kids - the pool area looked really nice and again, easy access to a nice, long wide beach when hurricanes aren't causing issues.It appeared that the rooms overlooking the pool were more updated (at least the balconies looked refreshed with better furniture) but the outside rooms have view overlooking the ocean.

Never Again Don’t be fooled by the pictures! Their website is very misleading. This resort is old and in bad repair. The elevators don’t work and the mosquitos will eat you alive while you climb the stairs. We were on the third floor. They advertise many amenities but they were unavailable during our stay due to staffing or being off season. The room was clean but the beds were very uncomfortable and our patio furniture was falling apart. Half the electrical outlets in the room did not work. No water pressure in the shower and it took ten minutes to get warm. The restaurant was unimpressive. The breakfast buffet had very few options and they struggled to keep it stocked even though there were not many people there. Breakfast went so bad that we did not try lunch or dinner. It is a very convenient location and a very quick walk to the beach. The pool is quite large but again the mesquitos were such a problem that we hardly used it. Very disappointed in our stay and will not go back.

elevators rarely ever work The elevator situation has not changed in at least 5 years. It was bad before the hurricane now it’s just disgusting and dangerous. The narrow cement steps are always wet making them slippery. The maintenance is only centered around the pool and grounds. The corridors are always dirty. And in constant need of repair. We would not recommend anyone with any mobility issues staying here. Condos are privately owned. Most have been updated several have not. But just because it’s not updated doesn’t mean it’s ok for it to be dirty which most are. There’s no housekeeping available. No cleaning products in the unit. Keep in mind you are here to use the pool and walkway to beach and it’s fine for that. Otherwise stay somewhere else especially if you want easy access to your unit and want it to be safe and clean.

Run Down This place may have been nice 20 years ago, but it is in bad disrepair. First condo we walked into was old and gross. Master bed looked more like a taco shell than a bed. Floors were gross looking. Light switches had a nice brown film on them. We called the office and asked if there were any other more updated units available (we are not typically ‘those’ people, but for the amount we paid to stay here… and we have three young children who acquaint themselves with the floor and every other surface). The office staff was kind and showed us two other units. The one we ended up in was nicer than the first, but still worn and not super clean. Pools were nice, but you were swarmed by mosquitoes. The big water slides they advertise are only opened on request and not for very long. They wouldn’t let my 5 year old do them because she wasn’t quite tall enough although she does larger slides at water parks.. the poor restrooms were disgusting and pool towels were kept far from the pool and were basically worn out hand towels. We enjoyed the beaches. But we ended up paying for a permit and driving down to go spend the day rather than taking the long walk from the condo. For the price, this place is not worth it.

Awesome place! First time coming down to port A and staying at Port a Royal. It was a fabulous trip, the staff was very friendly and great. I wasn’t sure how the food would be as it wasn’t that crowded while we were there,however it was awesome!!!! The whole family loved the pools, and the rooms were recently updated and very spacious!!

DON'T! I cannot believe no one has bought this dump and gave it a make over. I wouldnt take a free night here. GO ELSEWHERE! It is not clean it is not nice and im devastated at the condition it is in and people pay to stay here.

Find another place to stay. If it wasn’t for the pool, this place would close in 3 months. Third rate hotels in third world countries are in better shape. Been coming here 30 + years, and trust me when I say this is not worth the money they charge. Maybe $150 a day max. Elevators are hit and miss. Very, very run down and unclean. I don’t care what battle there is with insurance company. It is now 5 years post hurricane with zero appreciable attempts at fixing anything. I’ve stayed in places at a third of the cost that put this place to shame. Again, except for the pool. Really sad how bad this place has been allowed to become/remain.

Formerly amazing resort now rotted out and rusted crap hole. I’ll preface this with the fact that I’ve stayed here many times pre-Hurricane Harvey. It was the place to be in Port A. By far the nicest resort on the island back then. Now, it’s a 3rd world country s***hole. They should have never reopened in this state. I get they’re still fighting with insurance from the hurricane…but it’s been 5 damn years and it looks like they’ve done nothing. It’s dirty, moldy, and rusty. In the buildings that are open and don’t look like Hurricane Harvey happened yesterday…not in 2017…there’s still holes in the roof and elevators that may or may not trap you inside. The restaurant is in a tent at the front of the property and has like 6 temporary tables and chairs. It looks like someone forgot to put everything away after a wedding. The condo itself was decent enough that we didn’t bail on our reservation (mostly because there wasn’t much else available last minute). The water pressure was terrible and there were cabinet doors hanging on by a thread. It wasn’t anywhere near “fully stocked” with the usual kitchen supplies. There weren’t enough towels and the alleged daily housekeeping never happened. We asked for and received extra towels but they were never replenished during our stay. The pool is the only saving grace….aside from waiting literally 45 minutes at the bar for 1 beer and a water. The beach is nice and quiet. Luckily the many spongy boards on the boardwalk didn’t give in. And there is no longer security features to get on the property as the gate from the beach doesn’t require your room key, no one bothers to look for or ask for wristbands, and anyone can just wave to the guy at the gate to drive on to the property. We now know that the discount rate we got wasn’t a “pre season summer special. It was still too much to pay for this dump that should be closed by the state and surely can’t meet the minimum requirements that permit you to open as a resort. I’d only suggest staying here if you have absolutely no other options within 100 miles AND you are up to date on your tetanus vaccine. The owners are BADLY misrepresenting this place and their amenities/events. There’s no yoga in the pool. There’s no swim up movie. There’s nothing. The overly positive reviews are clearly fake as there’s no vision abled person could look at this place and think, “this is great!” They claim to be patient with the construction. There’s no construction. That would lead one to believe that improvements and additions are happening. There’s none of that anywhere on the property. I really hope they figure their stuff out because I’d love to see this place returned to its former glory. But they’re way too far away from that to consider ever returning. Lastly, this has nothing to do with the employees. They’re clearly not at fault and doing the best with what they have. Their attitudes were positive. But they shouldn’t work here and no one should stay here. Either fix it or let it rot…even more than it already has.

The pools are AMAZING, the food delicious, and the beach is breathtaking!! This place is a LOT of fun!! Yes, there is construction going on. It's really a non-issue if you need the truth. The restaurant IS set up in a tent, but I'm talking a top of the line "I forgot this is a tent, tent" if you know what I mean. The staff is amazing and the room we had was top notch. I HIGHLY recommend a stay here!!

Family weekend We love port royal but wish the elevators be fixed that aren't working. We always have great time. The staff are all very friendly helpful. The pool is our reason for going regularly its so much fun for all ages.

disappointing at best -the so called "restaurant" was a food truck with a LIMITED menu-the so called "remodeled" condo was ROUGH and not remodeled at ALL- the handicap shower was not handicap and we could not get our wheelchair in the shower-only one elevator was working on our wing and it went down for several hours on one of the dayw we were there limiting us from leaving since my husband is wheelchair bound.

Wonderful location, great staff and The best pool in all of the Gulf Coast. Great pool great beach wonderful staff and a great time. Highly recommend a vacation at Port Royal anytime you can get away. We will certainly be back and bringing our friends. One of the best vacation spots and all of the Gulf Coast.

Great Condo that allows dogs! Our condo was very nice and I like that it allowed dogs - even large dogs! Staff was very nice - restaurant situation was a bit disappointing but food was good and staff was so nice - hopefully restaurants issues from hurricane will get resolved soon - I would still recommend this place!

Hurricane Damage Continues Port Royale has not recovered from it's hurricane damage. Good luck to the owners in receiving bea good insurance settlement to update rooms and repair damage.The pool area is still lovely. The staff was friendly.

So much fun and very relaxing! Always a great stay! We will continue coming back to Port Royal when we come to Port A. Great customer service. Friendly and very attentive. Our room is always great and very clean. Restaurant food is delicious. Close to anywhere we want to go! Pool is beautiful and clean and so are the grounds.

Perfect Family Vacay Spot This is was the PERFECT place to bring my family of 5 with 3 small children (5,3,1). Super easy beach access and the best pools! The only improvement I would suggest would be for the room we stayed in to be updated. It was outdated and felt "old"and kinda dirty. The real rock stars of this place are the people who work there. The restaurant staff was super helpful and so friendly. I loved that we didn't have to leave for anything unless we wanted to. They even deliver food to your room and the pool area using an app from your phone. We will def be visiting again.

We will be back Great views, short walk to the beach and amazing poolside relaxation. The breakfast was also very good. The condo needs updating in the overall upkeep because some areas are worn down and need repair and the rooms are a bit stuck in the 90s decorating wise but overall it’s a great place with friendly people.

Get your condos in order. I've been coming here since I was a kid in the 80' and over the last 3 years it seems to be getting worse and worse. We have stayed in 3122 twice now and there is mold in the master bathroom and master bedroom (not sure how y'all rent it). I would like to kick who ever runs this place in the nuts because there are few no-brainers like leave the slide open till sundown, don't allow personal music in the pool area, and don't have DJ's start playing at 10 p.m. so loud it's shaking the condos. Also, their were multiple people throwing up on Saturday. Not the best family environment. I never complain, but this all makes me sad. Travis Shaw

May Rooms was spacious and nice. Nice kitchen with full size dishwasher. Full size washer and dryer was also great. Several lights were out in the living room, dining room areas. Elevators did not work 2 of the days we were there. Pools were very nice and location is perfect next to the beach.

Dissapointed Place is a bit run down and the building that was destroyed in the hurricane was an eyesore. The pool drinks were not too good. The furniture in the room was dirty. I had to pay $50 to have the room cleaned and the furniture apparently had not been properly cleaned in a very long time.
