Even better than anticipated I have wanted to visit Hannah & Paddies B&B for a long time, finally the chance arose. It is unusual to find an authentic experience like Roundwood House - a family home with a warm inviting atmosphere while it stays true to its age. The hosts are welcoming and present, but never intrusive... you'll feel right at home - especially when Hannah's breakfast or Paddy's dinner is on the table! A gem that needs to be experienced in order to understand. Thanks again Guys, can't wait to visit again!

Just heavenly We stayed in the writers cottage. It was bijoux but perfect. Loved that we could bring our dog who had a great time playing with the gorgeous little girls and there dogs. We had breakfast which was delicious and enjoyed the grounds. I felt I was in a Beatrix potter book.

Gracious hospitality This was my second trip to Roundwood house. Just as special as I remembered. From the minute we arrived ( a party of 6 adults and 4 children) we felt at home. Lovely welcoming fire in the beautiful drawing room to warm a chilly August day. The evening meal was a feast of flavours further enhanced by warm friendly service. Will definitely return!

Overnight with dinner 20/7/2020 Had been meaning to stay in this country house for a number of years as it is near my home town of Mountrath. What a wonderful relaxing place, great hosts and great food and warm welcome. I was there with my wife and I intend to return with a number of additional guests. This house is a unique midlands experience and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Tom and Alison Dowling

A wonderful experience Just back from our second stay at this beautiful house. We had such a lovely time from the moment we parked the car. After being shown to our room we were invited to go to the garden for coffee and homemade flapjacks. Such a treat! We met Tuba the cat and enjoyed watching the ducks and dogs wandering around the grounds. We relaxed in our room until it was time for our light supper of soup, cheese and dessert. The food was so, so good! We had the drawing room to ourselves and read our books in front of the fire. Such a relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast was equally delicious and the coffee was excellent. We will definitely return to Roundwood House. It is a magical place! Thank you Hannah and Paddy.

A must visit. Amazing place and a great example of what Irish people can offer. I would recommend staying in one of the cottages, and eating in the Big House. I will be going back when I can. A part of Ireland that is under discovered.

Pure charm , Simply the best . So relaxed and well appointed. We felt completely at home. The food was superb . It’s not a part of the country I’m familiar with so it was exciting to explore the Slieve Bloom area and its hiking trails

Fabulous venue for birthday party We had a fantastic experience at this lovely historic house for my birthday party. Hannah and Paddy are fantastic hosts. The food served was of an exceptionally high standard. The house is situated on lovely grounds with great mountain walks within a short drive. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and can’t wait to return. The impromptu after dinner music was a great bonus! Thank you Hannah and Paddy

Definitely will return Lovely house, not pristine, but with a warm lived-in atmosphere, and superb hosts, Paddy and Hannah and their children. And the unexpected music concert made it very special. It was a privilege to spend time there. Perfect for a winter break.

Incredible wedding experience in a perfect location My wife and I got married in September 2018 in Roundwood House and it really was the perfect venue, from the beautiful rooms to the incredible food. We were relaxed and felt at home immediately by Paddy and Hannah and their family and friends that hosted us. When we found Roundwood House online a year beforehand, we went to stay for one night at Christmas and immediately fell in love with it and booked it for the wedding. Our family and friends still talk about how it was one of the nicest weddings they've been to given the relaxing and intimate experience of it all. The house and grounds are the perfect backdrop for photos and the food and drinks on the day were just amazing (people still talking about the food a year later!). Whether you stay for a night for a break or family celebration, it will stay with you long after you leave. Thanks again Hannah, Paddy and family for the best day of our lives!

Congratulations Paddy and Hannah! What a hard working family this is. We came for my mother-in-law's 70th Birthday. We got a very warm welcome from Hannah with tea and cake and she also took the time to chat with us and showed a genuine interest in all we had to talk about. Tough going when you are trying to be everything in a place like this (as well as a mother!). Our rooms were charming and clean and the beds really comfortable. We loved the dog and the rabbit and the chickens. The library was fab. In the evening there was great attention from the staff and drinks were not lacking in the drawing room. The children ate first (food was spot on for them) and then adults dined privately. The food was absolutely delicious and Paddy brought in every course and provided a detailed explanation. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend here and want to congratulate Paddy and Hannah and their two girls on their wonderful and warm work ethic. We are only sorry our daughter could not be with us to experience it with her brother and sister.

What a delight! Last July we had the honour to be the guests of Hannah and her husband Paddy. It was a wonderfull experience. Due to unexpected circumstances we could only make our reservation a few hours in advance, but no problem for our fantastic hosts. They served us an excellent meal and gave us a true example of real Irish hospitality. The food was delicious, the surroundings wonderfull. Paddy and his cook gave us a private concert and Hannah is the best host you can imagine. Certainly worth a visit!

I am so dissappointed.....that I wasn't able to stay here After our trip to Ireland in 2006, and finding my origins in Mountrath, I'd planned to stay at Roundwood house for a week in 2007. Alas, financial considerations got in the way, and I had to cancel. While I haven't stayed here, I wish I could have. I'm still dreaming that I'll be able to visit some day. I live in America, and now that I'm retired, it's just a dream. I'm so glad to see these great reviews. While there are a few negative reviews on TripAdvisor, I think those folks were expecting something like modern, more fancy and well equipped hotel-like accommodation, rather than an authentic, homey, rural, down-to-earth experience. So, if that's what you want, go to a Holiday Inn, or Best Western. The Roundwood house has plenty of people who want to find an authentic taste of Ireland. It's not something you will find at those modern Hotels. While I've not been to Roundwood House, I expect there will be some wear and tear; the carpets and upholstery just wont stack up to those at the Holiday Inn or Best Western. Still, I really want to go there, and am saving up to d so.

Simply lovely We stayed at Roundwood for one evening at the beginning of October. The house itself has tales to tell and bears the scars of age and time, but the current owners, Hannah and Paddy, offer a happy, relaxed country house experience and we had a truly lovely time. We walked the perimeter of the demesne, perused the library, chatted to other guests in the cosy drawing room, with its roaring fire, relaxed in our large, comfortable room on the house's old nursery floor and were fascinated by 'Linda', the robot lawnmower that has become a Roundwood personality in itself. Supper delivered way above our expectations. We dined at a communal table with two other guests - a delightful, fun couple; our new friends - and enjoyed top quality restaurant fare. The food and its presentation were just superb and, at the end of the meal, Paddy and his chef sang and played guitar beautifully for us. Then it was drinks by the fire in the drawing room, where we set this crazy world to rights (or not) over wine and port until bedtime. As people have been doing at Roundwood for centuries, I'd wager. Breakfast was another lovely, plentiful affair and then it was, all too soon, time to leave a lovely, relaxing 24 hours in a special house with excellent hosts, company, food and wine. What more could a body ask for?

House full of character The house itself is full of character, and full of books, and interesting historical documents on the walls. The family and pets (dog, cats, chickens, rabbit, ducks) give the place a warm friendly atmosphere. The breakfast was cooked to order and first rate. As described in the hotel book, it is a bit worn but that mostly adds to the character/charm. The only negative was the small dated bathroom with a high sided tub which can be difficult for short and/or old legs. Our room was large, very clean, and the bed was very comfortable.

Want to Go Back Already! There is a certain air of tranquility and timelessness that envelopes this place. You find yourself wishing you could spend more time doing nothing but watching the chickens peck away at the cobblestone, the cats lounging in the sun, reading all the books the library has to offer or just walking the grounds. And if that wasn’t enough, there is plenty to take in driving and stopping to hike around the Slieve Bloom mountains or enjoying a pint in the quaint pub 20 mins away in Kinnitty. The Roundhouse is all that and more, the house wears its age well full of charm harkening back to an age of glamour from a few centuries ago. We opted for the communal dinner and were so lucky that the the fellow guests that we ended up sharing drinks and dinner with contributed to the great spirit of the evening. The night was lively and punctuated by chef Paddy’s singing. Obviously you can’t chose your fellow b&b dinner mates, but perhaps you will find that the spirit of the house and it’s tranquility lends itself to softening the human spirit, making everyone feel happy! Hanna, Paddy and their girls are ready to share their home.

Great B&B Experience We were two couples spending a week in Ireland traveling on motorcycles and The Roundwood House was our first stop -- it ended up being one of our favorites! Hannah and Paddy are exceptional hosts who are welcoming, warm and attentive without being intrusive. The house is full of history and the grounds are spectacular. If you are looking for a full-service, completely up to date chain hotel, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for charm, character and a stunning location then you will not be disappointed. Paddy and his sous chef are fabulous cooks and the dinner and breakfast were outstanding. We had a birthday to celebrate for my friend and they made it very special including music, singing and candles. Such great memories were made, thank you Hannah, Paddy and the entire staff!
