Taking our dog here was the best decision my husband and I could’ve made. She’s a one year old GSD malinois cross with a ton of energy and we struggled with leash pulling, dog reactivity, & some basic obedience. Now she knows how to place in a spot & stay, walks so much better, listens to commands & so much more. What’s even better is how we love that she didn’t lose an ounce of her personality but knows when she shouldn’t be doing something versus when she should be. The owner and trainers are also amazing. Not only did they have her for a little over a month training, but before she left, they taught us how to continue training at home. Not once did I have to worry about if she was being taken care of or not and the communication was always there. They really treat their clients dogs as their own & I couldn’t recommend anyone better!

So happy with the training our dog received! She was a good dog, but needed some manners and discipline. During her month long “doggy boot camp”, she definitely got that and she’s so much happier and well behaved. Highly recommend!!

We sent our 2 year old female Doberman Freya to Jared for a board and train program and it was life changing for both my Husband & I and Freya! Freya was a little fear reactive and a nervous girl, with leash pulling issues. I was starting to get nervous anytime I needed to walk her because I never knew what would happen! It was really effecting both of us. I never thought I’d be able to send Freya away for four weeks because she’s my baby! But I’m SO glad I did! The improvements she made were really unbelievable. The biggest thing is she came back with so much confidence. She can now play with other dogs in a better way, walk by loud noises and not think we are all going to die, and will walk calmly right next to me. I know if we are on a walk and come across something, I can get her attention and calm her down. Jared really enabled her to have a better life by being more calm and confident with herself and we are forever thankful!! It is so worth the money and time, especially with the training sessions afterwards that really show you how to maintain the behavior. It’s been months and Freya gets so excited to put on her collar and do little training drills in our backyard!

I brought my dog to Jared for the 4-week board and train program and it was the best decision for my dog (and me!). My dog is overly aware of her surroundings and kept barking at other dogs out in public (this was a new habit that started out of nowhere). Jared and his team worked with Rylee to calm her mind and I have seen a huge difference in her behavior. We are now able to take her out in public without worrying about how she will react. Jared and his team are extremely knowledgeable and you can tell they really care about giving your dog the best training. I can’t thank them enough and will continue to use them for boarding and training!

My dog Boogie was a HUGE (119 pound) menace both in our house and in public. When I called Southern State K-9 Training I truly was at the end of my rope and was worried Boogie would never get better because he has had previous training and it was basically ineffective. They not only came to my house for the initial visit with Boogie, but they put me at ease about the process and reassured me that Boogie is in the best hands possible for his board and train. The thing that made me value their training over others was the in home component where Boogie would be allowed into the home to practice and reinforce the manners he learned around Jared’s family and pets instead of Boogie being in a kennel environment the entire time with zero ability to practice his manners in a home until he came back to us. Jared and Gavin are really talented and knowledgeable about training methods, and I can tell they truly love what they do. When it was time to pick Boogie up, we were extremely nervous because our previous trainer in Texas did a rushed go-home lesson that did not help us at all. All of our fears were eased when we received an incredibly helpful go-home lesson educating us about not only about Boogie’s training, but also giving us the training we needed as Boogie’s family. All of our questions and concerns were answered so there was nothing left to worry about or fear. To hear Jared tell us that Boogie was out and about not just at Lowe’s and Tractor Supply but Forsyth Park as well made my jaw drop. This couldn’t be Boogie they were talking about, but it was! I am so happy to have my big boy back and am so proud of the growth he’s made with Jared and Gavin. Our next meeting is in a few days where Boogie will be in a public setting with me so I can learn about his public training and commands. I cannot express my gratitude to Southern State K-9 Training for the work they have done with Boogie. You have truly saved Boogie and have taken the huge weight of anxiety regarding Boogie’s out of control behavior off of my chest. If you are on the fence, do it! You will not be disappointed.

Well worth the time and money. Ducky had a great experience with Jared. It’s been three weeks since she’s been home from board and train (and Jared came to us for at home follow up reinforcement training today!) and she is doing great. He helped us reintroduce us to our five year old dog, and all went very well. We are putting our second dog through this program in December. 100 percent would recommend!

Dexter spent a month with Southern K-9 learning commands and how to be more confident and secure. His vision is impaired by cataracts, so we wanted him to gain some confidence and learn simple commands that would help him in his environment. The handoff was very informative and smooth. The trainers are knowledgeable, straight forward, and treat the animals in their care with respect and patience. We are looking forward to seeing what all Dexter is capable of now. Hopefully our other pooches will pick up on the training as well!!

We adopted a 1.5 year old Malinois that was super stubborn. Jerred was amazing from the 1st meeting. Our new boy is now doing great! Highly recommend!!

They did an excellent job training my puppy who 8month Boykin spaniel. My puppy is over energetic which can be a lot and they were able to get him to focus that energy on the right direction while my puppy still has his personality. Definitely recommend their service! Thank you

We adopted a 1.5 year old Mal with no manners at all. Jerred spent 1 hour with our dog and it changed everything! We can not wait to see the difference after 4 weeks of training. Highly recommend!!!

Southern State K9 was great, they helped both our Malinois and bird dog get trained up in a month and the training has stuck. Jared is great with coaching the dogs and helping them achieve their behavior goals. Jared has provided continued support and advice even a year after our initial training for the pups. He always responds immediately and provides expert advice that comes from a place of genuine interest in the dogs’ wellbeing.

Jared is extremely knowledgeable and professional. We feel very comfortable putting our dogs in his care.

Updated (8/20/2023) to add: we still continue to bring our dogs to Jared when we have occasion to travel without our dogs. Not only are we confident that they will be well cared for, but also knowing that Jared & Co will be working to reinforce their training is a HUGE benefit. We considered ourselves pretty competent dog owners and have done a similar board and train program with one of our previous dogs… however we found ourselves with a new rescue from the humane society that just wasn’t fitting in with the rest of our pack of four. We needed the help of a professional to help reprogram our adult pitbull mix into knowing the rules of how civilized dogs live in nice suburban houses, and to leave his survival behaviors of a stray behind. Now Pancho is absolutely perfect… and Jared has gotten us comfortable enough with the eCollar training tool that I plan to implement it to fine tune the behavior of our “good” dogs. (Turns out the new dog wasn’t the only one starting disagreements with the other dogs, the established pack members were being buttheads as well— and Jared helped us recognize that “challenge” body language and how and when to act to correct it.) It will definitely take continued work and consistency on our parts to make sure everyone is on the same page with their lessons, but Rome wasn’t built in a day and Jared has made himself available for ongoing follow up assistance. Obviously with a pack of five animals we have a soft spot for rescues, and Jared’s expertise has helped us make sure we can live happily and peacefully together. Cautionary note: not all board and train programs are created equal, and knowing this I am skeptical with the trainers I trust. I can 100% guarantee that Jared is the real deal, treating your dog well and using his skills and knowledge to make your pup choose to do the behaviors you want. We don’t have human children—our dogs are our family members— and I am very happy we chose Southern State K-9 with something as important as this. If you’ve never done professional training before, the price can be a bit of sticker shock. I’m writing this review to tell everyone it is worth every penny.

Phenomenal experience with Jared and his team. My Mal went to him for the 6 week program at seven months old. She returned to me with on and off leash training to include: recall, down, sit, heel, and stay. I recommend Southern State K9 to anyone looking for experienced SOF handlers to train their four legged friend. Jared also boarded my dog while away on TDY and offered video classes with me to improve her skills.

After 4 weeks with Southern State K9 LLC, we were happy to see how obedient our GSD was. We liked that Jared also took the time to teach our family great tips to be able to reinforce at home everything our dog learned with him. The best is that Jared’s training doesn’t end when he returns the dog. If you need a follow up, he will gladly meet with you for an extra session. Our baby is now more obedient, calm, and manageable THANKS TO SOUTHERN STATE K9!

We could not have been more pleased with the progress we were able to see after trusting them with our dog. We were given great updates about her progress that made us feel included and excited. We were then given the tools to learn how to further develop her new skills when we took her back home. As a result she is calmer and more confident in herself, and you can see that directly as a result of the time and care they took with her.

We’ve had a great experience with Southern State k9. It started with meeting the trainer and talking about our goals; where he helped us with direction of what specific things we could work toward. Our German Shepherd was about 15 months old and a ball of energy. When we picked him up at the end of the four weeks the best part was that he was still our same dog, with energy and personality, but he enjoyed obedience and training. Our dog is now about 80 pounds and it’s great when friends come over we can have him go to his “place” or “down” and he’ll actually stay there instead of freaking out trying to get attention from visitors (until he’s allowed to). Walks are 100% easier, and he’ll “heal” when we need him to. When we finished the homecoming session with the trainer he gave us a great class on how to continue the training and stressed the importance of keeping it up consistently, and it’s still paying off. I’d recommend training with Southern State K9 to anyone who wants to get their dog started in a focused direction in training, and wants to learn how to make their relationship with their dog even better.
