I've had a Strobel Rambler for almost a year now and I absolutely love it! it fits neatly in my laptop bag and is so easy to put together but the main thing is how well it plays and it sounds great through my headphone amp. It became clear to me some years ago I needed a travel guitar. I took a vacation requiring a plane ride and chosen not to take a guitar with me. I really missed playing every day. So a search for a suitable travel guitar was undertaken.

Firstly I bought a cheap Telecaster with the idea of removing the neck and putting it all in a suitcase. I found it too heavy and difficult to manage the neck with the strings still attached to the body.

Next I purchased an electric guitar with a hinged neck. The company normally made travel acoustic guitars but had a special run of electrics. This was a better solution than the Telecaster but the case was large and I didn’t like the way the strings were held in a captive nut.

So I searched the local guitar shops and tried several travel guitars but was underwhelmed by them all.

Then I spotted the Strobel and it looked interesting. So I bought one and I love it! I really like the way the neck detaches from the guitar leaving the strings held together in an ingenious clip that bolts to the top of the neck.

The fret work it extremely good and the fretboard edges are nicely rolled. The fit and finish is excellent throughout and the guitar looks, plays and sounds great.

It fits perfectly in my suitcase not adding a lot of weight. I just returned from a trip to the UK and took my Strobel and Spark Go Amp with me. The perfect combination for travel!

I have really enjoyed my Rambler Classic for several years now. In the past several years I have made an average of about 3 trips abroad each year. My Strobel guitar has made it on all these trips inside one of my checked bags. Given the rough baggage handling on both airlines and onto and off ships, it has held up remarkably well.

J'ai découvert Strobel Guitars après recherche d'une guitare pliante de voyage (voyage en moto , en ULM ou en bagage accompagné en avion). Je ne suis pas déçu, la guitare est très pratique, se range dans une sacoche d'ordinateur et a de très bonnes qualités musicales. Couplée à un tout petit ampli sur batterie, l'autonomie est totale pour un encombrement très restreint, on peux l'emmener partout. Bravo pour cette trouvaille ! Expédition en France très rapide, emballage très protégé avec une belle housse pour transporter la guitare lorsqu'elle est montée. De plus avec un super suivi de la part de Russ chez Strobel, vraiment très sympathique.

Just made a 45 day trip circumnavigating the world with my new Strobel guitar and couldn’t be any happier with both its performance and ease of taking it from place to place in both my carry on bag or in my backpack. My travels took me from Texas to Seattle by air, boarded a cruise ship transpacific to Tokyo, travelled around Tokyo & Yokahama for a few days, flew from Tokyo over the North Pole to Helsinki Finland followed by a flight to Iceland to pickup a 22 day cruise around Iceland and thru the Arctic Circle to many ports in Norway then back to Iceland & a flight home to Texas. This guitar traveled thru a wide extreme of climates and was rock solid without any need for any adjustment other than de-tune/disassembly/pack/unpack/assemble and re-tune. I clearly made the right choice for a travel friendly guitar in the Strobel Rambler! ( photo of guitar taken in my cruise ship stateroom in the middle of the Pacific)

Awesome instrument. I am blown away by the innovative design and detail that went into this incredibly complete “Travel” Guitar. It was no surprise to learn that Russ, the inventor, designer and long time guitarist is also an engineer. The quality of this electric guitar I believe is unsurpassed at it’s price point. I purchased the basic RAMBLER as a way to finally stay on track practicing. It literally can be broken down in a minute or two and be in your carry on or sea bag ready to go. Feels great to play and sounds great when you plug into your amp. With a Traveler amp and ear buds and you can practice anywhere without disturbing anyone. I truly love my new Strobel Guitar. If I get good enough I will probably ask Russ to build me a custom piece. Great guy, great guitar and great customer service. Could not be happier!

Since my Rambler arrived last month I’ve been playing it almost constantly, which is probably all you need to know. Simply a high quality guitar playable right out of the box, I love the sustain and clarity (three note voicings especially), and the pickups are a revelation. The fact I can break it down for travel is just a bonus…
Russ himself answered my emails and questions, so shipping to Europe went very smoothly. Cannot recommend highly enough.

I'm in Australia and I was very impressed with the way Russ communicated with me. I purchased a Tobacco Rambler Classic.
It arrived very well packed and in an extremely fast timeframe.
Wow! What a great guitar for the price! The finish is superb.
I haven't plugged it in yet, but don't expect any problems.

Received the rambler in tobacco sunburst after a few days of ordering it. When I called strobel guitars, Russ Strobel actually answered the phone and made time to speak with me in depth. The guitar arrived and when I opened it I was greeted with a beautiful tobacco burst too and the best fret work I have ever seen on any guitar at any price. It sounds like it looks flawless. Tones are not splittable but I was able to get a variety adjusting the volume and tone knobs. The guitar has enough heft so you feel some substance in your hands and not that of a cheap toy. The hum buckers are good, really good. I usually leave it in the neck position tone about 1/2 way down for that creamy woman tone. Overall great sound, great build and the perfect size to carry on my overseas trip coming up. Add to the affordable price and it becomes the complete package, thanks Russ

Purchased a Rambler five-years ago and couldn’t be happier. Extremely high quality instrument that plays as well as any guitar at price ranges way beyond a Rambler’s price-point. I’d also say its more mobile than any current guitar one the market for a fraction of the cost of some of the more high-end options. Breakdown and transport is a piece of cake and fits in a normal size backpack. Great guitar and a bargain in todays market!

I bought my Rambler several years ago and it's been a trusty partner for trips (and home gigs). The full body sound and portability is great, I have dropped this guitar in an airport from six feet, picked it up and starting jamming. It now has the marks to prove its a well traveled and loved guitar.
