Allerton Castle is, without a doubt, one of the most enchanting wedding venues I’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing. Nestled in the heart of North Yorkshire, this Gothic revival stately home exudes history, elegance, and grandeur, making it a perfect setting for a fairytale wedding. When I photograph a wedding here, the stunning architecture and picturesque grounds make every moment feel magical.

Spectacular main hall to perform in for a wedding. I've performed here several times for weddings and it always makes an impression.
The staff are lovely and one of few venues that announce musicians, like myself, to guests for appreciation.

We had the absolute pleasure of photographing a wedding at Allerton Castle, and it was nothing short of magical! From the moment we arrived, we were in awe of the castle's grandeur and charm. It feels like you’ve stepped right into a storybook, with beautiful architecture and lush grounds that provide a perfect backdrop for photos.
Allerton Castle is a photographer’s paradise and a perfect place for couples looking to have a fairytale wedding. We can’t wait to go back and create even more beautiful memories there!

Fantastic gothic revival stately home open for visiting. We visited on a Tuesday (their open day) which was free flow in the morning. We returned to take advantage of the formal tour, which started with tea or coffee in the ballroom. The tour was led by Jane, a very knowledgeable & entertaining lady which lasted for 2 hours. Do check on their website the days of opening & cost, although HHA members are welcome for free.

Stunning!
This property is breathtaking.. from the moment you enter! There is much to see and all of it is a feast for the eyes, all beautifully maintained. None of the rooms were cordoned off so we were able to walk around and view the contents to our heart's content. Friendly, cheerful, informative staff who were happy to answer any questions and clearly enjoyed working there. We were lucky enough that one very helpful member of staff took us on a tour to see the private chapel, not usually open to the public. If you visit, do ask if you can do this because it's well worth doing. Our only regret is that we did the free for all walk around in the morning, whereas had we known it was going to be this spectacular we would have opted for the guided tour in the afternoon (which is only available on certain days). Point to note is that they do not have a tea room so you may want to stop for refreshment ahead of or after your visit.

Beautiful building; shame about the interiors
My wife and I, along with our 6 year old son, visited here in August 2024. We love country houses and estates, and consider ourselves to be very well-versed in their architecture and contents, and what passes as quality. We weren’t overly impressed by Allerton Castle. The building itself is a beautiful example of late-Victorian Gothic Revival, and is impressive in its scale and design. However, I would rather have seen the house empty than witness some of the strange, ill-fitting and, at some points, downright bizarre furnishings. For example, the first bedroom we visited featured a gigantic moulded resin golden wardrobe, direct from a film set or Vegas drug den, and a 1990s Laura Ashley rug which my wife recognised from her parents house. The gorgeous central hall featured a leather suite of sofas and chairs direct from a solicitors waiting room, and two boxy IKEA side-tables. The marble fireplace in the dining room, having been damaged in the fire in 2005, was boxed up and sent for repairs (in resin)…to China. I recognised two pieces of furniture in the so-called “Tudor suite” which my grandad had in his living room in the 1980s. Red carpet tiles covered the original floors outside the morning room; tasteless statues and light fittings abounded. The rear entrance, with a magnificent orangery feel to it, featured a collection of horrific wicker Tiki chairs, a la 1950s Hawaiian themed restaurant. It felt like a real shame that the beautiful, literally stately, building had been filled up with tat and very cheap, poorly chosen reproductions. We felt really let down.

We had our wedding here and it was perfect. The team of co-ordinators are amazing, so helpful and made the process of planning so much easier. The guests loved the venue and found places to stay nearby. The photos are unbelievable! Food from Bradshaws was absolutely brilliant too!

We had our wedding at Allerton Castle in May and the experience was not only unforgettable and magical but also a breeze.
From the moment we saw photos of the castle we knew that was our venue. Sophie was our coordinator and she was so helpful the entire process. We were planning everything from the US, so we figured it was going to be very difficult to get this coordinated. We were wrong though. Sophie answered all of our questions swiftly and with detail. She had suggestions for us when we needed vendor advice, and the venue as a whole, was very flexible with any requests that we had. Bradshaw’s (catering for the venue) was equally as helpful and kind.
The venue is absolutely stunning. Every room more impressive than the last. Warning, we barely had guests dancing because they were too busy exploring and taking photos of the space itself.
On the actual wedding day, everything went without a hitch, and everyone was floored by the venue. It was a lot to ask of our guests to all fly in from the US, but we got an overwhelming response that it was worth the journey. We had dozens of guest tell us that they’d been to many weddings where the food was sub-par but that the food at Allerton (Bradshaws) was the best they’d had.
Thank you so much Allerton Castle for making this truly the most magical day in our lives
