Unprofessional Staff - "AvistaMed, Do Better"
My family have been patients at AvistaMed for their Primary Care Services possibly 2+ years now.
There has been consistent billing companies and billing teams that have no clue how to bill. In fact, the offshore billing team has been a nightmare. Double and triple billing. This was related to copays paid in the office during office visit check-in. On ‘many’ occasions I've had to call and ask Dr. Punya Raman’s team for assistance with their billing company. Here team during those times agreed that my family and I do not owe money despite their attempt to collect and collection threats. I have also sent receipts and snip-its of bank statements. However, we stayed loyal to Dr. Raman.
There has been a consistent rotation of staff. The gentleman that used to run the office was amazing. Unfortunately he’s been long gone. You learn the rotating staffs way of doing things. Last week this became an issue.
Immediately out of the hospital I called for an appointment with Dr. Raman for follow-up care, as advised. I also wanted to advise that their latest billing company is charging for a service that they stopped billing for and wanted you to understand when the fees started up again. Gabby answered the phone 7:31a before I could speak, she asked me to hold, I waited 9 minutes, the call picked up and I was immediately hung-up on.
I called back, I was happy that Bree answered. Bree had unprofessional tone when I said I was waiting and was hung-up on. She said I was never hung-up on. I asked why she had tone when I'm trying to advise of my experience this morning. We moved on and she scheduled me for a visit with the doctor. We then discussed the billing department. She refused to accept the process that was happening with the billing department and their prior process. Bree stated she’s been working there a month and know the process. Gabby was in the background talking then took over the phone call, again unprofessional tone. Gabby said she's been there 6 months and said the billing process has never changed.
I asked if she can have Dr. Raman contact me about their unprofessionalism. Gabby then says “Dr. Raman will not be calling you back!” She said I could only speak to Chad Gammage the office manager. I asked for his number she gave me his email address.
I searched online for contact information on how to call Chad and/or Dr Raman. I emailed them both. Although, I did not receive a call from anyone (smh) my thought was I would advise Dr. Raman of what took place during my doctors appointment this week (after discussing my emergent medical event).
Today, I receive a “Patient Termination Notice” written on 9/20 (the day of my call to their office) and signed by Chad Gammage (potential relative or spouse of Dr. Raman, from what I am hearing now). He never called but sent the letter (smh). It also stated “Avistamed will release your medical records upon receipt of your new doctor’s signed medical release authorization form”.
Being in insurance for 34 years I know my rights to receive copies of my own medical records.
All of this to say… my horrible experience was unfortunately caused in part due to the team’s degradation of service, unprofessional staff and lack of understanding relative to continuation of care.
I know this organization can do better, I've seen them operate professionally in the past with prior tenured staff.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE
Stated verbatim that they were unwilling to refill my medication that I've taken for 20+ YEARS unless I schedule an appointment. I informed them that I was out of meds and they stated that the earliest appointment was over 2 weeks away and that I would have to go without my meds. They then hung up on me. Awful service, rude, unwilling to be understanding, and all about making money. DO NOT GO HERE
Hello Christopher,
I want to remind you that you were last seen by the doctor on 03/21/2023 and that annual visits are required for your medications. Indeed, you know this after 20+ years of the same routine. In addition to messages from your pharmacy, my office messaged you on 03/04/2024, 04/04/2024 and 04/11/2024. You did call on 05/23/2024, and the doctor filled your prescription +1 refill. At that time, you also scheduled your annual appointment and lab for 06/13/2024. My office messaged you the next day, on 05/24/2024, confirming your prescription was being filled. However, you skipped your appointment and labs on 06/13/2024 without notice and left AVISTA with no time to schedule somebody else for your time slot. Despite being out of medication since July, you blame us almost two months later. We could not meet your demands on Friday, the day of your review, due to your inappropriate and outrageous conduct.

As a patient of Dr. Raman, I have received compassionate and expert medical care. I appreciate the time she takes to explain any concerns and provides excellent suggestions for improving my health. Dr. Raman's medical team (Jennifer, Ashley, Gaby) is welcoming and professional every time I visit the office.

Will likely be switching offices. Went in a week ago for an issue I have been dealing with for 2 months. No sense of urgency or attention to detail. They couldn't draw my blood there so I had to go to a lab. Haven't interpreted my bloodwork to let me know what was found although I received the results from the lab last week. It has been 1 week of me calling my pharmacist, my insurance company and Avista trying to get my prescription filled. No progress. How lovely.
Dear Ms. Goding,
I am sorry to hear that you had an unsatisfactory experience during your recent visit to our office about the issue you have been dealing with long before. I understand that you were sent to the lab to have your blood drawn, instead of having it done in the office. Our staff is trained and experienced to make the best decision for patients based on their unique circumstances. In your case, they determined that sending you to the lab was the best course of action.
We had instructed you to inform the office when the procedure was completed, so we could schedule a follow-up appointment and interpretation of the results. Unfortunately, we were not informed when your blood draw was completed, which led to a delay in scheduling your appointment and interpreting your results. It appears you forgot to contact the office as instructed.
Regarding the issue with your prescription, it appears that there was a mix-up because you used one form of insurance for your office visit and another at the pharmacy. The insurance used for your office visit did not require authorization for your prescription, whereas the insurance you used at your pharmacy did require authorization. It is very possible that this error led to your confusion and frustration and why progress was delayed.
Sincerely,
Chad Gammage/GM

Update 11/8/22: from their response I guess spending money for a non communicative doctor that expected me to just know about diabetes is not up to my own expectations of a doctor. Found a doctor that actually listens and communicates. Oh and 3 months later I'm reversing my diabetes with no prescription drugs. I started in August with a A1C of 8.7 and as of yesterday my A1C is 6.8. Funny the doctor here said I wouldn't be able to control my diabetes without a prescription. I guess she didn't mean reversing it. Go to this facility if you want to waste your time and money with not being communicated to or listened to.
For the most part the staff and Dr Ramen are somewhat friendly. I went in thinking I was having hormone issues and I was told I have diabetes. Dr Ramen prescribed me new medication. I informed of my trust issues with prescription drugs, with preference of natural supplements and she asked me if I knew anything else. I told her I'd have to research. Upon leaving I was given literature on diabetes(and a story about how people with diabetes can lose a toe) but there was no detailed conversation about blood sugar levels, where I need to be at etc. Maybe they just assumed I've been diagnosed before which I hadn't. I did, do watch my blood sugar and changed my diet completely since that visit. My 1 month follow up I was excited as I had seen some changes but wasn't expecting a overnight success. This visit was a terrible experience. The person that took me into the room and the Dr Ramen made it seem like I wasn't taking it seriously and I made no changes. Dr Ramen talked to me like we had a detailed conversation before about blood sugar levels. Which we had not. I know I wasn't expecting instant results, it was sad I had to remind the doctor of that. Finally she told me we wouldn't see any real results for 3 months. If that was the case, why did you waste my time and money on this 1 month follow up? I thought this doctor's office was different but I was wrong. I guess this office that specializes in weight loss is more for people that want scared straight or touch love not a supportive encouraging environment.
Hello Lu - I'm sorry to hear we couldn't meet your healthcare expectations. I'm also sorry to learn about your lab results, as diabetes is a chronic (long-lasting) health condition that, over time, can cause serious health problems. As for Dr. Raman's prescribing you medication, she followed the guidelines established by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for treating diabetes. You can learn more on the CDC website by going to https://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/basics/diabetes.html.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can be of any assistance. - Regards,
Chad Gammage/General Manager

Great experience
Between COVID and a knee replacement, I put on weight that was not healthy for me. I went to Dr. Raman and her team for help and received the direction and encouragement to get rid of the weight. The Avista team was friendly, extremely helpful and I would highly recommend them.

Had to find a new Dr.
Had an appointment for a physical before a scheduled surgery arrived and paid my Co-pay was told I owed 40 dollars additional from a previous visit. I asked for what and he said he didn't know so I asked what the date was? and he said he didn't know, and I said when he finds out I will pay it. He then said I can't get my physical until I pay it, I told him I have no problem paying it if he can tell me what I'm paying for. He couldn't so I left and found a new Dr.
Gordon, I wanted to get to the bottom of this and hit a roadblock. I've searched my database for "Gordon" (first and last) and cannot confirm your review. The last "Gordon" to visit was in March this year and for a different type of visit. Leading me to believe you left a comment for the wrong office. Also, care is always allowed at the time of the appointment, even when balances are due, typical for patient follow-ups. However, appointments are only allowed when payments are made on past-due balances. This, again, leads me to believe you're commenting in the wrong place. Please, let me know if I can be of further assistance.
