left me scarred on my chest. paid nearly 5k over 3 years to get worse results than i started with please consult with actual licensed dermatologist with scar expertise RE: after reading Dr. Tirgan's response to my review- I think that says enough. Any reasonable doctor will acknowledge that their practice is always evolving, which is why it's called "practice." A doctor who claims to be all-knowing and superior to every other dermatologist should be a major red flag. Such a doctor is unable to admit when they're wrong and fails to recognize that while their methods might be effective in some cases, they can be damaging in others. What’s needed here is humility. Unfortunately it seems he'd rather be petty in reviews than take accountability, at the cost of patients' wellbeing

Another fake review. "Consult with an actual licensed dermatologist with scar expertise"??? You simply don’t know that every year, hundreds of dermatologists and plastic surgeons attend my lectures in international meetings to learn from me how to treat their own patients. If you knew a bit about me, you would have known that I never call keloids a scar. That is how much you know about my medical practice.

Total scam Called to make an appointment to see the doctor. Was told to go on the app and to fill out information. Then you need to pay $200 on the app only to receive an email stating the consultation is $250 and to call to make an appointment. Very disappointed

I had a great experience working (and still working) with Dr. Tirgan. He has always been kind and spent time explaining everything to me, answering all of my questions both in person and via email, and has always seen me when I had any concerns. My treatment plan with him was very successful and the keloid I had on my neck that was growing and irritated after a surgery went down almost completely after I was finished with my sessions. Dr. Tirgan also deeply cares about the research in his field and I can tell he is interested in his work which is definitely the ideal doctor. Thanks Dr. Tirgan for all you do in the field of keloid treatment and research.

Dr. Tirgan is the best there is! He is so kind, explains things in a way which is easy to comprehend, and never forces any type of treatment you aren't comfortable with. I have had keloids all my life and I've never had success with treatments until him. Dr. Tirgan is so knowledgeable about keloid disorder and treats every patient as an individual and unique case. I can't say enough good things!

Dr Michael Tirgan is a medical oncologist specializing in the management and research of keloids which has been understudied. He continues to invest his time in helping individuals who suffer from keloid feel good and comfortable with their body and skin. It has been a wonderful experience having him care for me during the whole process and I achieved great results with my post C-Section keloid that have sustained over many years. I’m keloid free- thanks to Dr. Tirgan! As a physician and also his patient, I highly recommend him for the management of any keloid whether hidden or exposed, simple or complex.

Generally speaking, I’m skeptical of physicians who claim they can “fix” keloid scars. Unfortunately, most of my learning has been trail-and-error. Over the course of 20yrs I’ve experimented with ILT, laser, cryo, surgery, radiation and about every topical imaginable (imiquimod, etc). I had found meaningful success with similar modalities Dr. Tirgan uses in his practice, specifically ILC. Over 4-5 months I vetted Dr. Tirgan through his research and began engaging with him through the email and consultation process, eventually leading to treatment. Personally, I didn’t appreciate the initial back and forth (including on-boarding fees) as I was covering familiar territory, particularly with my background. After meeting Dr. Tirgan my skepticism was assuaged by his sheer professionalism, experience, knowledge and dedication to this unique condition. Unlike any other, I’m convinced Dr. Tirgan can “fix” keloids and help improve lives of those who are looking for a solution. Put simply, Dr. Tirgan is the game changer for Keloids.

Dear Bryan, thank you for taking the time to write a detailed review. I am always happy to help. I think you brought up a very good point about the process that I have established and the email back and forth and fess. Perhaps sharing the history of this process will help you and others to better understand why I established this process.

When I first shifted my practice from seeing oncology patients to focusing on keloid disorder and seeing keloid patients - back in 2008-2009 - I accepted insurance from every patient. After treating over 60 patients, we realized that insurances considered keloids to be a cosmetic problem and as a result majority of our claims were denied. This is why I decided to not accept insurance anymore.

I then tried to do what other physicians were doing in New York, i.e., providing free initial visit and brief consultation to potential patients. This led to many patients scheduling appointments, but often mostly not showing up, or if they came to the office, many were simply price-shopping, and perhaps only 10-20% chose to get treatment from me.

We then changed this process and assigned a fee of $150.00 to initial consultation. This reduced the number of patients who came to the office but did not reduce the number of those who actually came for treatment. We maintained this process for a few years, but one day a patient came to the office, had a full consultation with me that took over 45 minutes. She then walked out of the office, refused to pay the consultation fee, and decided to even leave a negative review on Yelp.

We realized that we needed to establish a better process, whereby patients would get their treatment cost estimate before even coming to the office. I then established the current system. Patients would complete a form, provide history of their keloids, submit images of their keloids and I would review that information and write back to the patients and provide a brief treatment plan and cost estimate. This system worked, but we noticed a new problem. This process worked just like providing free consultation that I had established many years ago. Many patients were sending the information packages and I would take time to review and reply to each one with a cost estimate but yet again, far too many patients would not come for treatment.

To refine this process, we then decided to charge $100.00 for the initial assessment. This system allowed all who were serious about coming to my practice to find their way. We also increased the consultation fee to $250.00 as the whole process became quite time consuming. From the time a patient submits the information package, until the end of consultation, with numerous e mail exchanges, much like what you personally had with me, takes over an hour of my professional time.

As a result, the current system, allows all those who are serious about coming to my practice, to get a very accurate cost estimate and then choose if they wish to come for treatment to my practice or not. This system works very well and as a result everyone has a much better office experience.

I hope this explanation helps you and others to get a better understanding of why we have the current process.

Sincerely,

Michael H Tirgan MD

Dr. Tirgan is a crook. He will sit you down and tell you that surgery isn't the solution because the keloids will grow bigger (this is true), and then tell you that his treatment is the best on the market because it's less invasive (false). What he does is use a method called cryotherapy, and Dr. Tirgan KNOWS this is completely ineffective, especially if you have non-ear keloids that can't be compressed. Still, he will charge you an arm and a leg for cryotherapy, and you'll find that your kelids are more pigmented and darker, but they will not go away. When you tell him this, he will shrug and say, "Oh well, it didnt work. Sorry." He's already taken your hard-earned money and now your left with a darker, more noticeable keloid. All he does is make money on desperate keloid sufferers knowing his treatments for non-ear keloids don't work. Save your money.

A fake review. Patients from as far as Singapore, Malaysia, Norway, Russia, Italy, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and many other countries, and practically from every State in US and Every Province in Canada have come to New York be to be treated by me. The reason they continue to come to New York to see me is my dedication to Keloid Research and pushing the envelope on this very hard to treat genetic skin disease. In 2011, I founded Keloid Research Foundation, a Non-for-Profit research organization that since 2016 has organized annual keloid research symposia, has established the Journal of Keloid Research. I have provided free keloid advice to many who are unable, or even should not come to New York for treatment.

During a given week, for the past 14 years, I have dedicated more than half of my professional time to keloid research and publishing numerous articles and treatment guidelines - time that I could have spent on practicing oncology and having a lucrative income. My accountants and some of my friends even ridicule me for taking a major loss in income by focusing my attention on Keloid Disorder. But the reason I have done that, and the reason that fake comment like this does not bother me, is that I do keloid research for the good of humanity, so that one day we have better ways to treat keloid patients.

Now about this review, those who write fake reviews like this, always hide behind a short first name. This is in total contrast to many real reviews that are written here by patients whom I have treated. Real reviewers show they full name, have written many other reviews and talk about their interactions with me. The fake reviewers have to go way out of their way to make a ridiculous point, always with an ulterior motive, to deter patients from coming to my practice, and instead to lure keloid patient to go to a competing practice that offers surgery and radiation to all patients, no matter how old they are, no matter where their keloids are, no matter how many keloids they have. As long as they can PAY, they are treated with the same one formula that they have to treat everyone. What happens next is that many of those patients end up in my office, after being seriously harmed by surgery.

My daughter struggled with keloids as a child and we tried everything but nothing worked. Dr. Tirgen was the only Doctor who was able to remove them. He was also very patient with her and took his time with the process. I would definitely recommend him to anyone with Keloids.

Dr. Michael Tirgan is one of the best doctors for keloid treatment in New York. I am seeing him since the beginning of 2020. I was so worried, upset, and nervous about my keloid, the previous doctor, I visited gave me a high dose of steroid which had changed my skin color around the keloid to unnatural pale white. Dr.Tirgan is so calm and patient, listens to all your problems, makes a customized treatment according to your keloid, and tracks the progress on every visit. He knows what he is doing. I have seen so much improvement in my keloid and it feels like almost no keloids. I always remember me saying on the 1st day of my visit "give some time". I think to get the proper treatment of keloid it needs some time for sure. If you looking doctor for a keloid treatment he is the one.

To be honest, I should of Sue !!, back in 2019 in August I had went Dr Michael to get my keloid removed or Minimize, I paid $650 dollars for this procedure. 2 years later I have bald spot and side of my face of my beard and it still Irritate till this day. I have proof of evidence of before and after.
Reply from Michael Tirgan, MD 2021.09.29
Dear Ryan:
Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

Keloid process itself destroys all hair follicles in the area that it grows, especially on bearded areas of the face. You can see that in numerous images of facial keloids that are on my website and also on the internet.

Since you have old photographs of your face, please look to see if you had any hair growth over your keloids prior to the treatment. From what I recall, your keloids had already destroyed all the hair follicles.

Although keloids can be treated, the keloid induced hair loss is permanent and has nothing to do with the treatment.

Lastly, in your review, you indicated that you only saw me once but did not indicate whether the treatment you received from me helped with flattening your keloids or not?
