I've been coming here for a while and it's quickly become my favorite restaurant. Everything I've had there is incredible.
The food is both interesting and delicious, and the menu is always being tweaked to add new things or iterate on their best dishes. The staff are friendly, know the food well, and are very helpful.
A perfect mix of neighborhood spot and high quality dining.

Overall food is decent. Not amazing. Value is poor. Beef pie is borderline a scam.

I came here for a brunch and the pancake, omg, it was so good. Milk bread was so hood too. Their Japanese breakfast was amazing too but it is something that you can get any other good japanese restaurants. Mushroom ricotta toast was def one of my favorite!Loved everything and can’t wait to go back.

Great atmosphere, been to Lingo mannny times: love sitting at the bar (friendly staff, fast service, excellent happy hour menu and fast changing seasonal menu).
For dinner, we had the refreshing Maine uni (although the crispy rice stuck to my teeth a bit), the creative bouillabaisse with delicious bouncy udon noodles (!!) and the Iberian pork collar (Less memorable and thought the garnish was over-pickled).

Delicious food and excellent service. The beef tartare is the best I’ve ever had.

The food was delicious, especially the hamachi sashimi and the cod entree. The ambiance was lovely. I especially want to give a shout out to the service. My friend felt unwell early in meal (nothing to do with food) and she had to leave abruptly and the manager and staff were very kind and gracious in helping us manage the adjustment. I ended up finishing my meal solo in dining room, but enjoyed the atmosphere so much that I moved to the cute bar area in front after and had another friend join me there!

We had a fantastic brunch at Lingo today with my family. It was a casual atmosphere and the service was top notch. The food did not disappoint as we ate many of the items on the menu. Highly recommend the Apple Tart Tatin pancakes and the Lingo Beef Pie (a take on chicken pot pie but it’s made out of Japanese beef curry) but we really enjoyed everything. We have to come back and try the dinner menu!

Edit as I can't reply to owner:
I just want you to know that we were not offered anything at all at the end of our meal. I was trying to order a dessert at the end because you have one of my favorite British desserts (sticky toffee pudding) but was told only one item did not have egg (the grape ice cream) but at no point was it offered in lieu of your lovely birthday treats being passed around. I do want to let you know that a few things felt a bit exasperating, but I gave the benefit of the doubt each time - when seated, we were given the far corner table away from everyone else, but we thought - oh maybe they're trying to give us privacy. Then when we weren't offered anything for the special occasion I thought to myself, oh it's probably the egg but they could have at least acknowledged me or taken my mocktail off the bill. And then when we saw the coat rack we thought, oh maybe it was full when we came in. But at some point you just realize that the communication is either really poor, or a second thought. If given a choice, I would have picked a different empty table of which there were many. And if offered a celebratory treat I would have appreciated it because Christmas adjacent birthdays are absolutely the worst 😓 and people hate having their coat collect dust on the floor. The food is good but the service really needs a little improvement and consistency. I'm disappointed that whoever told you that we were offered something was not telling the truth.
I REALLY wanted to like this place.
I'm going to smack whichever Instagram influencer beguiled me enough to spend my birthday dinner here. I knew immediately when I walked inside and felt overdressed that I probably picked the wrong restaurant for my special occasion. The food is fairly interactive - bone marrow has steak tartar that you assemble with nori which was such an interesting twist on a bone marrow dish. Beef curry pie has a smoldering rosemary stem coming out of a piece of bone marrow but the curry was very one note. The mushroom rice was very unsalted so you missed out on all the great mushroom flavors. Food was good but for the price point it's just not quite good enough.
For a low key meal this will probably meet expectations, but for the prices here I thought it would be a little more refined, interesting on the palate and proudly served. One very hard working server was taking care of the entire seating area to the best of his ability but there was no sparkling conversation or personalized attentiveness. I think I just set my expectations too high because of all the online accolades. Lighting is very dim so not super great for photos or big energy.
Not only did I watch 4 other ppl get birthday desserts while we were passed up tonight (the special occasion and allergy instructions never made it to the server I'm guessing) but on my way out we see a coat rack and on the coldest night of the year having many layers on we were not offered to have our coats hung up when we walked in. So for a birthday dinner I ended up feeling like I got subpar service, a missed birthday treat (could have gone elsewhere) and an expensive but mediocre meal. Maybe if I just came in for a regular dinner without all the hype I would have been less disappointed. Will not be back though. For half the money you can get better food at Wanpaku.
Hi Jennifer,
We're sorry to hear we didn't meet your expectations for your birthday occasion. The birthday dessert you were referring to being passed around other tables contains eggs (which is your allergy of which we were very aware of). We offered you as an alternative the genmaicha ice cream as that is the only dessert on our menu not containing eggs but you politely declined. However, as such we did unfortunately forget to send a birthday candle by itself so we apologize for that and again for your experience not meeting up to your expectations for your special occasion.

Friendly service and comfortable space. Food is also quite good if slightly overpriced for some of the portion sizes. Like one strange dish - the vegetarian curry pie - was basically a bowl of runny liquid with about 7 small pieces of potato and cauliflower and a couple dozen peas. Odd. But our main issue was the server suggesting that all the dishes were shareable. Sharing a bowl of very liquid curry with few veggies was near impossible/ unappetizing. Many of the other dishes were similarly not shareable - like the 1/2 cup or so tiny bowl of bisque and the basic entree sized piece of cod. Had we not been steered toward sharing we’d probably have ordered more and been more satisfied

Giving the food 3 stars because I got food poisoning there. I messaged the staff on IG the night I ate there and what I had to inform them and potentially stop the spread but never heard back.
Overall the food was great minus the getting sick part. The potato’s with caviar is a must have. We also ordered the Uni appetizer and the crudo - which one of the two caused my food poisoning I’m sure.
There are a lot of great food items so recommendation going with a larger group so you can try more things.
Great cocktails, unique menu and cozy vibes. The dessert wasn’t mind blowing (we got 2) so skip it if you’re too full.
Hi Nathalie, thank you for the review but sorry you did not feel well that night. We take food safety very seriously but couldn’t find any IG message regarding this. Can you email info@lingobk.com with the details and we will be in touch with you asap.

Lingo is such a great restaurant for brunch or dinner. The Beef pie from chef Emily is incredible. Truly the best Japanese/American food in Greenpoint Brooklyn!

Lingo in Greenpoint Brooklyn is the best Japanese/American restaurant I have ever been to. The food, the service and the atmosphere is perfect. I loved the cocktails, the milk bread appetizer and the pancakes at brunch. I went back for dinner and our experience was just as good.

Very chic looking spot. The food was very tasty and the staff was super nice. They had an issue with the white rice and let us know that it would delay our meal by 10 minutes. We told them it was fine and within a few minutes they brought us out some of their famous milk bread as a complimentary gift for the delay which we really appreciated. I got the Japanese breakfast set with the Galbi and it was delicious. My gf got the cod sando, which was also tasty and flavorful. Would recommend this place
