An amazing meal at Maison Sun! We were immediately taken with the ambience when we walked in the door — sleek, modern, and inviting! An intimate, comfortable, and highly unusual setting — a chef's table unlike any we gave been to. Carlos made us feel right at home with his warm hospitality. The aperitif and starters set the stage for a meal that exceeded all expectations. Everything was delicious from beginning to end, and the varied wine pairings were exceptional! We enjoyed the selection of dishes, all beautifully prepared and presented. The cauliflower velouté and the black cod were standouts, as well as the delectable duck, and the Wagyu beef was a real treat. The desserts were fragrant, complex and delicious. We hope that Maison Sun gets well-deserved Michelin stars soon!

Very intimate restaurant with 10 seats. Great for a special occasion or date night. Loved the service and flexibility around wine tasting (ability to have a smaller sampling of premium wines for lowest tier pricing). Food was quite good in general but didn’t love some of the earlier courses. Dessert was excellent. Overall a good experience.

Amazing experience. I love tasting menus at great restaurants but even though they're amazing, they're very overpriced. We got 7+ excellent courses for $125/each. A very good value. The chef's table was a great, intimate experience with only 7 diners total. Carlos, the host and owner, was knowledgeable and made it fun. Highly recommended!!

My girlfriend was in a wheelchair and they were very accommodating. Service was professional and friendly. 8 course tasting for $125 was very worth it. We aren’t well versed in fine dining, but all courses were unique that blended multiple flavors and textures. Standouts were the duck, sea bass, and watermelon dessert!
Happy to accommodate! Our pleasure! 🙏🙏🙏

Missed their precious 72 hour deadline to cancel by mere minutes. They immediately backfilled the reservation (and acknowledged as much). They refused to waive 150 cancellation fee (again despite plenty of notice and actually backfilling the spot). Their rationale was that they hire staff each night based on how busy they will be … makes zero sense (again bc they will have the exact same number of patrons). Said I could credit the 150 if I came in and ate and spent a minimum of 100 on alcohol per person. Avoid at all costs (or at least 150 dollars) - extremely money hungry.
To the public at large,
Mr. Litz never dined at our establishment.
Essentially, he missed the 72 hour deadline to cancel his reservation. He was warned by Resy he would be charged a late fee; despite having accepted the charge, he proceeded to contact us about obtaining a refund. There was no personal emergency or an extenuating circumstance at issue. He wrote us threatening to leave a 1 star review if we did not waive the fee. The remarks made here hence represent a mere means of retaliation for what actually transpired.
Further, it is unclear what is meant by we “backfiled” the reservation, and how we “acknowledged this” - this is not a common term in our industry. He is either confused, or perhaps assuming that because someone else eventually took his seats, he is therefore entitled to a refund. Mr. Litz has clearly no respect, nor values the work of our reservationist.
We explained our rationale, namely, that if we do not enforce cancellation fees, we have no other means of discouraging patrons from cancelling without due notice. To clarify, as with any restaurant, especially with single seatings limited to 14 guests, last minute cancellations represent a major disruption to staffing needs. When we set a weekly schedule, for example, if we go over 8 guests in the books, we hire additional staff with at least 72 hours notice. If those additional patrons cancel, we either have to cancel hiring that additional staff member, which represents a disrespect to their time commitment, or we essentially have to pay for over-staffing, $250-$350 typically, which represents an unfair cost of labor to the restaurant. Nothing guarantees us “an exact number of patrons,” on any evening, as Mr. Litz claims, such a perfect world is not the case.
In addition, it puts us at risk of a major loss revenue since, whenever we are sold out, and often are, other potential guests are unable to book those seats for the duration of time in which those seats appear as unavailable. Many of our guests are couples visiting New York for the weekend; whenever we cannot offer them seats, it is unlikely they ever try to book with us again unless they visit New York regularly. So yes, the 72 hours are very much “precious” indeed.
In fact, the vast majority restaurants in the city exclusively offering tasting menus have non-refundable policies, such that full pre-payments are made upfront and not allowed to be re-scheduled. Hence, we feel we are quite relaxed by comparison, so to call us “money hungry” seems undignified.
We offered to credit Mr. Litz with $150 on his next visit, with the understanding that there would be a minimum consumption on wine. We felt $100 per guest would be a reasonable ask considering the circumstances: the degree to which he complicated our scheduling that week, the fact we make no profit on our tasting menu, and it being our typical guest spending average on wine.
Mr. Litz read our reply and nevertheless insisted on recovering his funds through American Express claiming a fraudulent charge.
We hope Mr. Litz finds establishments that better suit his expectations of restaurants based on his ad hoc needs.

A solid 4.5 stars!
I came to Maison Sun for dinner tonight. I'd heard about them a while back when i think they were still in an apartment so when I heard they opened a brick and mortar store I had to give them a try. Overall, it was a good experience. The space is very intimate, chef's counter style. I dined with one other party of three and i think the space holds a max of 10 or so. The host, Carlos, was a very gracious host.
On to the food, it was pretty good! To start we had some light bites. They were OK, wasn't really a fan of the Foie Gras one, the others were pretty decent. I specifically liked the one that tasted like a chicken stuffed with something and the crudo. Moving on to the other courses, I actually surprisingly liked the asparagus soup, which I didn't think I would because it was cold soup but it ended up being pretty good. The tuna tartar was great as well. However, the star of the show was definitely the duck risotto. It was the best risotto I've ever had and my favorite dish of the night. I wasn't really a fan of the main fish dish. It was pretty bland. Just simple fish with cherry tomatoes, sliced grapes, and some type of leafy green. I was expecting a bit more from this dish. The final savory course of the night was the lamb, which was also really good! The lamb was soft, and the potatoes were tasty. On to dessert, I loved the palate cleanser, which was some type of rhubarb and honey fennel sorbet. Surprisingly, the honey fennel ended up being my favorite half. The main dessert was also decent. I just remember it being another type of ice cream, and it had a lot of components like mochi bites, sorbet, and a chocolate disc. It's possible that you may also get an almond macaroon with your meal. It was mentioned at the start of dinner, but I never received one, so it may just be for special occasions, it's unclear.
My only critique/suggestion why I docked half a star is I wish there was a wine by the glass menu because (i) it would make it easier to pick a glass of wine rather than having to try several (ii) it would also make pricing more transparent as while I ended up finding one wine that was decent not necessarily sure I would have wanted to pay the $42 a glass for it. And yes, I could have asked but who wants to ask the price of 5 different glasses of wine in a nice restaurant? It's just better if the price is posted up front so you can decide. Also, I'm sure this was meant as a nice gesture to make the checkout process easier but it's always good to give someone a heads up before you run their card and in this case that wasn't done. Not a big deal but sometimes people use business cards for meals and some, like mine, may have restrictions on alcohol so always good to ask. Finally, did feel a bit rushed out the door towards the end. Didn't get to say goodbye to the chef or the other dining party. To give them the benefit of the doubt, this could have been due to the rain or because they needed to open the door, which they'd locked but not a good feeling after a 2 hour meal.
Overall, I had a great meal at Maison Sun and would generally recommend.
Dear Ms. Whyte!
I thank you sincerely for visiting us and your overall very positive feedback.
We most certainly take your comments and impressions in good stride! 🙏
You correctly point out some minor missteps on my part, which I will address.
We welcome all our guests to stay as long as they please, especially since we offer but one seating, but more importantly, I enjoy extended conversations I have with all our guests, often well past the 2-3 hour mark.
I sincerely apologize if I or the chefs did anything to give you an impression otherwise.
With this in mind, I am more than happy to offer you a private tour of the kitchen should you decide to return in the near future. Simply remind me! 🙏
As for wines by the glass, in the interest of transparency (and efficiency), we charge the same price of $42 per glass for all our wines (except for a few of our higher end wines). I do owe you an apology here as it seems I did not mention this from the outset, or even before I poured the glass itself, as proper service would command (I usually do, but I admit, not on this particular occasion).
Noted on offering to run separate cards for alcohol versus food in the future. This is a great point you raise, as many of our clients have corporate/ business accounts that are separate from their personal accounts, and for the purposes of accounting, some prefer to keep certain charges separate from others, but especially alcohol.
Indeed, the macaroons are intended for birthdays and anniversaries, but of course, we are more than happy to include a special one for you on your next visit, or if you happen to be in the neighborhood, simply tap at our door, we will gladly take care of you! They are a must!
Everyone agrees chef’s “almond croissant” flavored macaroons are exquisite!
Thank you again for your visit and taking the time to offer us your feedback, it has certainly been constructive and I believe will prove informative to other potential guests in the near future.
Best regards, Carlos, owner

I’ll be blunt: it’s not great, and definitely not worth the price. I know they’re still figuring things out, but too much was off that I think I’d have liked to know before going.
First, the atmosphere was cold and cafeteria-like, with cheap decor. Definitely not aligned with what you’d expect at this price point. The service also felt amateurish, with the host checking the dish descriptions on his iPad.
Food-wise, it was really disappointing. The first bite we had was an overbaked chou. Their homemade bread was dry and underbaked, and the foie gras croquette was bland.
The risotto and lamb were good but not amazing; any bistro could do this. The fish was advertised as simple, which was true if they meant “you can do the same at home.” The soup with dry vegetables (a take on a bowl of cereals) was too thick, and the vegetables didn’t have much taste. It just didn’t work.
The coup de grâce was the birthday candle without a cake. Don’t do that.
Mr. Lamperti,
I typically respond to our exceedingly rare less than 5 star reviews by thanking guests for visiting our establishment, no matter what the circumstances.
You have earned the exception.
You wrote me privately. I assured you, disingenuously, of course, that your feedback would be taken in good stride. Ultimately, I was grateful your comments did not make it to the public domain where they would be taken out of context. I dismissed you.
You have now chosen to escalate the hurtful and ill-informed nature of your opinions for reasons that elude me.
It is clear, however, your intention is to make your impressions known so that other diners are discouraged to visit us and thereby, with you embarrassing us, have a damaging impact on our success as a restaurant.
In our defense, I wish to outline four simple facts to the public at large; to wit, based on my experiences having personally served 3000+ guests, at our current price point, from the time I started Maison Sun in my residential home back in 2020.
Mr. Lamperti was noticeably underdressed for the occasion. But this is more tolerable, I realize, among certain guests of the so-called “Gen Z” generation.
Mr. Lamperti haggled us from the outset to obtain a discounted price on his wine pairing.
Mr. Lamperti, startlingly, claims our multi-million dollar infrastructure, featuring a vintage Molteni stove, custom K9 crystal chandelier pieces, and our Christofle sterling silverware collection, resembles a “cafeteria.”
Finally, Mr. Lamperti wrote me deeply disappointed that he did not receive a “brownie” with his birthday candle.
I can assure you, Mr. Lamperti, our clientele would agree there is little reason to engage with you beyond these facts.
Besides, nothing I write could possibly bring your self-righteous sense of culinary sophistication back down to earth.
After all, you believe that your keen perceptiveness trumps the years of professional work and development our team invested in our restaurant.
You thought, inchoately, I would be grateful to you for making me aware of the truth that is our mediocrity.
In your mind, a myriad of opportunities for excellence were overlooked, perhaps altogether neglected, for years now, and by hundreds of uncouth guests, far less sophisticated than you, until you, Mr. Lamperti, came along to graciously offer us your insights and illuminate us all.
And to reward you for this costless gesture, you assumed that I would feel ethically obliged to offer you a refund.
I did not, and so you decided to escalate matters in frustration and a cowardly form of retaliation.
Allow me to put your doubts to rest.
Mr. Lamperti, had you asked me for a refund, no, I would not have conceded.
In my estimation, I am not the amateur, Mr. Lamperti, you are.

I would describe Maison Sun as an intimate chef’s table experience that allows you to interact with the staff and other guests in a fun and engaging way. My husband and I came here for my birthday recently and Carlos and his staff were amazing! The attention to detail given throughout the entire experience from decor to food quality and wine pairings was nothing short of outstanding. Carlos is obviously well-versed and knowledgeable in the service industry and knows how and when to interact with his guests sharing as much or as little information that you need to enjoy your dining experience. Should you decide to pay Maison Sun a visit, you will not be disappointed.
