Peppermill Devizes (Hotel) Reviews

Fantastic 4 days at the Peppermill hotel in Devizes We stayed at the Peppermill from the 1st to the 4th of October after an appalling two nights at the Bear Hotel just a 5 minute walk away (Please see my review concerning this hotel). I can’t recommend the Peppermill enough, everything about it was great. When we were looking for an alternate hotel and came across the Peppermill we’d booked our room there and then because we were so impressed with the service. Being somewhat cautious after our experience at the Bear we asked to see some of the rooms as a precaution and the receptionist was very accommodating. The rooms we saw were in complete contrast to the rather tired and unkempt rooms at the Bear, they were up to date, looked to be only a few years old and even though the heating wasn’t on, they were warm which mattered to us a great deal because our room at the Bear was freezing. When we came down from looking at the rooms the hotel owner was at reception and we got talking to him. He was very friendly and really helpful and even told us that the hotel restaurant would be closed on the day that we were checking in and recommended some restaurants nearby, all of which we tried during our week in Devizes and as it happened they all turned out to be extremely good. He also gave us some information on tourist attractions as well. When we asked what time we could check in he said that the normal time was 3pm but he would see to it that our room would be ready at 11am which coincided with the time we had to check out of the Bear so that was even better. In the evening we went out for a meal at one of the restaurants that the hotel owner had recommended called the Black Swan and the food there was faultless and so was the service. On the day that we checked in, again the owner was at reception and he said to us that a Superior Dulux King room had come available and would we like to see it which we did. It was a larger room with a bigger bathroom and a Super King bed and at the same price as well so we took it. The owner even helped us up with our luggage. We also booked a table at the restaurant for the evening and again the food and service was faultless and the staff were all very attentive and polite. In the evening we went back to our room to chill out. My wife stayed in the room but I went to one of the “Snugs” which are areas set out for you to relax in. The one near us has a fire place a couple of settees and a coffee table all of which resembled a living room but without a TV so I settled down for a nice quiet read. In the morning we went down for breakfast which was in the restaurant. There was the usual fair that you see in most hotels but all of it was cooked to order. You know it’s cooked to order because you can see the chef cooking it so unlike the Bear it came out nice and hot. So, what’s my conclusion about the Peppermill? Well, its 10 out of 10 and if ever we’re in Wiltshire again that’s where we’ll be staying.

Stunning boutique hotel We have stayed at the Peppermill Hotel in Devizes several times and it never disappoints. What makes this hotel special is that each room has its own unique character and appeal. The owners have invested so much love and care in the design and beautiful soft furnishings. The restaurant is fabulous and they have an excellent wine list. Perfectly situated in the heart of Devizes across from the market place, it’s a real gem. The staff are really friendly and invested in making your stay/ dining experience a great one. Thank you

Lovely hotel with a great breakfast We stayed for two nights while walking in the area with some friends. Rooms were great, spacious and the air conditioning was very welcome. Spotlessly clean and bed comfortable. The snugs and sitting rooms were a nice touch as was the fresh milk in the fridge in the snug (although something to convey a small amount back to your room would have been nice). Friendly welcome. They were happy to store my husband’s bike safely. The breakfast was lovely, yoghurts, cereals, fresh fruit and nice service and a good choice of cooked options. We did eat in the restaurant and I have reviewed that separately as it wasn’t such a good experience. Would definitely stay here again if we were in the area, just not sure we would eat there in the evening. Only niggle would be that they charged my credit card when we checked in….booking confirmation said payment due at checkout, and as we were two couples we wanted to pay separately but weren’t given the choice. Not a big issue though.
