Excellents instruments fabriqués par Sylvain ! Suivi sympathique et professionnel. J'utilise le Silent Oud parfois sans ampli (ou avec un casque) afin de ne pas déranger mon voisinage et jouer tard à tout moment. Merci encore. Excellent instruments made by Sylvain! Friendly and professional service. I sometimes use the Silent Oud without an amp (or with headphones) so as not to disturb my neighbours and to play late at any time. Thanks again for your help.

Sylvain est un véritable passionné. Je recherchais un Oud de voyage et suis naturellement tombé sur son modèle Sylent Oud. Après échanges avec Sylvain pour comprendre mon besoin, il a aussi pris soin d'être de bon conseil pour une fabrication sur mesure. Le Oud reçu est juste superbe, vous n'achetez pas juste un instrument sur catalogue mais un véritable instrument créé pour vous par un luthier ayant le soin du détail et pas avare de conseils. Sylvain’s hand made instruments are unique and the product of thoughtful designs and long hours of meticulous work. I got the Sylent oud, which not only is fun to play, but also has an interesting character that blends traditional design with a modern look. Sylvain was very attentive to detail and customization based on my needs. He was willing to experiment and determine the best options. He is very responsive to any concern and he genuinely wants people to enjoy their instruments. Most electric ouds can’t achieve the compactness and the sound that Sylvain can produce. He is a great pioneer and a thinker, in addition to being a musician.

Even though I am a luthier, I preferred that my silent oud was built by Sylvain because I think I would never have been able to build an excellent instrument like the one he sent me. Because he is specialized in this and has the knowledge and art necessary to build perfect instruments. I also made some small changes, but more for my personal preferences, such as raising the strings a little more on the bridge bone, because I believe that they should not be sunk too much into the notches but should protrude for a third of the diameter. I also slightly distanced the C and G choirs because I do not like the slight squeaking that they make when rubbing against each other. But these are very small things that I changed only because of my obsessions as a luthier. For the rest I only have to thank Sylvain for this instrument that is giving me splendid satisfaction.

Un grand merci à Sylvain pour son travail de qualité. Des échanges à la livraison, et même au sav, c'est impeccable. Le monde du oud est particulier, en trouver de bonne facture n'est pas aisé. Que ça soit sur la finesse de la lutherie ou la jouabilité, le oud moon que j'ai commandé est unique. Parfait pour bosser en silence, je l'amplifie peu, mais la palette de nuances possibles grâce à l'EQ présent est intéressante. Ce oud ne remplace bien entendu pas un oud classique, c'est différent, un monde à part, mais un très joli monde. Encore merci Sylvain ! Et chapeau !

Bought an electric oud from Sylvain, very happy with my custom instrument. Sylvain has been listening to my needs and suggestions and helped me design the perfect oud for me. Very quick answers on whatsapp and fast delivery as well.

My Sylent-oud is one of those rare products that proves to be better than I could have imagined. Very comfortable to play sitting, and really is nearly silent, which is exactly what I wanted for certain practice situations. But what I didn't expect is that it actually sounds great when plugged into an acoustic amplifier. I could imagine performing with it in situations where I can't bring a full-size oud. The action is perfect, and the 58.5cm scale means I can use either Arabic or Turkish tuning, as required. On top of everything, it's also a work of art, elegant both visually and functionally. Buying an oud online is not easy. Often it's hard to contact a maker or to really get an idea of what quality you're getting. Years ago, I had stumbled across a YouTube video of the Sylent-Oud by SBD-projets, however, at the time I had no plans to buy an oud and I didn't look further into it. In February-March 2021 I began considering getting an oud, but as stated above, doing so online seemed like a gamble in terms of price vs quality. Then I remembered the video of the Sylent-Oud. It would offer me versatility and portability, plus no hidden surprises because of additional taxes. I initially contacted Sylvain about his Oud Moon, which had caught my interest, but after many emails back and forth I settled on a Sylent-Oud with a cedar body and coaxial tuners. Sylvain's communication was excellent: replying promptly, answering questions clearly, and asking questions of his own so that the model and tuning would fit with the customer's intended usage. As for build quality, the instrument is made with quality components and attention to detail. For instance, the neck profiling and feel is similar to a high-end electric guitar, the fingerboard is level and smooth, and the piezo pickup delivers exceptional warmth, clarity and balance. Although the piezo is passive, it really does not need much boosting whatsoever. All in all, the Sylent-Oud is a professional instrument that will become a big part of my musical life for many years to come.

I am very happy with the electric oud I bought from Sylvain. It is super precise, it sounds great, I take a lot of fun to play with. It is not expensive for an instrument of this quality. In addition, communication with Sylvain is very easy, he is attentive and attentive to his clients (I say client but we almost have the impression of exchanging with a friend). It has been a pleasure to work with Sylvain. He was so patient through the thought iterations that finally resulted in the instrument design that was right for me. While I have two ouds now, the SBD innovation will provide me with a better playing and portable option when I travel to a performance location. I am soooooo looking forward to giving a follow up review when I receive the instrument and put a few finger miles on it. 😀

I commissioned SBD to build me a custom electric oud. On the whole I am extremely pleased with every aspect of my experience. Sylvains customer service was exceptional! His attention to detail concerning my order and the details concerning everything from manufacturing to shipping along with regular communication of the process really set my mind at ease. The product arrived quickly and packed securely. Being an instrument luthier and fine woodworker myself I am a stickler and expect near perfection when I make an investment on this level. I am extremely pleased with the quality of materials and craftsmanship. This is not only and electric oud...it is a piece of fine art! This will be handed down to my son someday. The Sylent-oud is a beautiful instrument. It sounds wonderful, so much better than my old electric oud - really clean and rich. It is beautifully made. You can really see and feel the craftsmanship, it is a pleasure to hold and play. And it arrived 11 days ahead of schedule, which was a happy surprise. Sylvain sent updates throughout the process of making it - it was really nice to have that level of transparency and communication. Highly recommended!
