Awesome ramen joint with a nice, quieter style of service that I wish we had more of.
The tantanmen was the best bowl of ramen I've ever had. The noodles were great and fresh with good bite. The charsiu was by far the best I've had, so tender and tasty and not rubbery like in other ramen I've had. The broth was delicious, and the egg, ohh, the egg was a marvel of eggineering – the white was solid but not hard at all, so easy and nice to bite through. The yolk was jammy but not just jammy, it was elevated beyond a simple jammification. I make onsen tamago, the tornado egg for omurice, you name it. I am the egg man, but I would study under whoever made that egg. Either America sucks at eggs or that was no ordinary nitamago.
Then the dessert. The matcha shaved ice was immaculate. $18, sure, but it was a mountain big enough to feed 5. The thick cheese foam on top was stunning. The red beans tied it together. The matcha was pristine quality.
I will come back here. I will.
I'm ashamed I didn't take a photo of the ramen but at least I have the kakigori. You should go anyway.

I finally gave this hyped ramen spot a try, but it was a letdown. The experience started off on the wrong foot when the waitress at the door gave us attitude. After we were seated, we asked to change tables (the restaurant was empty—it was the middle of the day), but she was visibly annoyed.
The appetizers were decent but overly salty, and the ramen itself was nothing special—I’ve had way better in NYC. On top of that, the place isn’t family-friendly, and the overall service left a sour taste. Definitely not worth the hype.
Thank you for taking time to write us a review, Tray. We are sorry to hear the experience this time did not meet your expectations and we sincerely hope to have you again to show what a true Tonchin experience should be like.

Tonchin was recommended to my partner and I by a local friend and it did not disappoint! The broth is super rich and flavorful and the noodles were perfectly firm. The high ball drinks were refreshing and presented very nicely. We both really enjoyed the bao buns; the hint of wasabi/horseradish was very yummy.
Service was a bit on the slower side, but it was fairly busy which is understandable. The tables are a bit cramped also, but wasn’t too bothersome. Overall, I’d recommend & would like to visit again!

We walked in for dinner on a weekday without a reservation and was able to get a reservation right when it opened. The interior is nice, very warm, cozy and romantic, and dark. We ordered some drinks off the happy hour menu and they were very good. We had debasaki wings and unagi (eel handroll) to start. The wings were amazing!!!! We opted for more pieces of wings since it’s worth it. It was crunchy, savory, a little kick from the chilli powder—I love the wings!! The eel handroll was great too, there was plenty of eel and the handroll was big. We also offered a ramen, I believe it was the Tokyo ramen, the broth was amazing and the pork chashu was perfect, it was thin, not too fatty. We also added a portion of noodle to share the bowl of ramen. Lastly, my favorite part of Tonchin is the shaved ice. It took about 15 minute for them to make it sense alot of people order it. We got the matcha and red bean one and the top is dolloped with a whip cream. Amazing!!!!!
Thank you for your review, Lo! We are so happy to hear you enjoyed the experience at Tonchin and loved our Kakigori shaved ice! We cannot wait to have you again.
